Happened to us too. Our Progessive surge portector had a burn in it too. It was replaced but we were told they would NOT do it again. Said we did not have it pluggen in correctly.

Herk is right and has some greta points. We always check the power before we level the trailer or disconnect... just in case we have a bad power stand.

We are thinking about putting a bucket over or around our surge protector to keep water and dirt out.

I'd say from the looks of the two melted cord ends that you have a very bad connection, and may be right at the amp rating for the cord. Too many amps can cause the cord to over heat and actually melt. When you are plugged in, every once in a while feel of the cord. If you can't hold it, its pulling to many amps, probably meaning a bad connection. Try cleaning the contact blade and spraying it with an electronic contact cleaner. I spray mine every so often.
