I transferred the I have from a R-Pod to the new TT and when I removed it from the Pod there was a charred place in the flooring under where it had been fastened down. I do not know how it kept from making a fire but glad it did not.
I contacted Progressive about it and they said they had seen several like that if the unit was bolted down on top of flooring. They did offer to change the housing if I wanted but other than a bit of odor it looked fine so I decided not to bother. When I installed it in the new TT I made sure it had LOTS of air space around it.
I installed the 30amp version in my Solera last week. Hum was so loud thought I had a bad unit. Was getting ready to call tech support. Had a cup of coffee, walked back to look over my install and no hum.
I'm convinced it was the coffee
Progressive should put in the manual to leave an air space under the unite if it is needed. The post by Ky-N scares me. I have had a 50 amp unit screwed down to a carpeted compartment for 6 years. Now in the spring I will need to remove, inspect, and reinstall with standoffs. Makes me a little pissed off I have been living with a fire hazard and did not know it. They should have built stand offs into the case if needed.
