Good catch. Yes, both the water heater and reefer inlets are right above the gas cans, and present a potential fire hazard if either unit is powered up.
It was a compromise, because I wanted the genny exhaust blowing away from the entrance door side. The gas cans are secured with ROC Straps and come out whenever we are camping and using the refer or water heater.

I got the gentent for my home generator, yes expensive, but I got tired of trying to rig something up every time in the rain and snow. I bought the inverter generator kit for it as well, so I can take it with me when I travel with generators. It is very solid and I keep it installed on my home generator, seems like it would withstand anything weather-wise.

My Champion 3400 is too heavy to lift on and off, so I mounted it to a Genny Go on the rear bumper. When in use in the rain, I put a 5' piece of 1/2" EMT conduit upright on each side with a 3' piece running between them at the top. I use clamps to hold the conduit against the bumper, then drape a 3' x 4' rubber backed floor mat over the 3' cross piece, and clamp the mat to the conduit. It allows for plenty of ventilation and gives a decent amount of protection.
I'll meet your "redneck" and raise it!

Running those under my unit would be too close for comfort for me, I'm paranoid about CO seeping in. Once after a bad storm, it was still raining, I stopped by my friend's house and he had the garage door open a couple feet, with the generator right at the end of the garage under the door edge. I told him not to do that, and he said, "but the exhaust is facing out". I told him to do what he wants, but don't come crying to me when he kills his whole family. Even at home, I keep my open frame well away from the house when running. Thought about placing them in the bed of the truck with the folding bed cover down and tailgate open would be plenty of ventilation, but I'm thinking the truck bed would act like a resonation chamber and amplify the noise.

NJKris, Mu Eu3000 is too heavy for me to safely lift out of my truck also. If there is another man there willing to help I will get it out. Most of the time I leave mine in the truck bed running and you won't even notice it there. I am afraid with the cover over the unit it won't get enough air to stay cool so I rigged up a tarp system that gives it plenty of breathing room.

My concern was more about having a unit running beneath the RV and CO collecting/seeping in if there is not a breeze carrying it away.

That's a little different then a generator sitting out side a sealed RV . not like i keep the door open when it's raining . . it's like saying if your hooked up to your TT or 5th it will be flooded with CO from your truck since the exhaust is point right at the unit . every wonder why when you stop from towing and go in your unit it's not full of exhaust from your truck

Mine is bolted to bed behind cab of pickup. I have a roll up truxedo bed cover. I roll up the cover and have a 1/2 plywood cover over the genny. When towing fifth wheel the cover lays on the bed cover rails with the front of plywood under the adjustment screws of the truxedo and the rear is held in place with those adjustable wood clamps. When not towing the plywood cover stays put and fits under the roll up cover and is almost totally invisible. Thousands of miles, no problems, works great. Quick, cheap and easy.

I have a cover for storage but if I'm boondocking mine should not be in weather and my parallel kit is not weather proof.
I am going to run 2 generators; champion 2000 watt inverter, not the stackable.
Thanks!

I had a custom genbox built, I open the air intake door, open exhaust door and prop the main door open 1/3. The generator sits there nicely out of the weather and purr like a kitten sitting on a warm rock. See http://www.wediscovercanadaandbeyond.ca/2014/06/custom-made-generator-box-for-our-rv.html?m=1

I did spend the money on a Gentent. Went through a heavy storm 2 days ago, and it worked very well. Champion 3400 wt dual fuel generator. Cover for mine was about 150.00

Plastic cola crate... 5x7 tarp.... string... and couple of tent stakes. 3-5 minutes and a lean-to for the generator.
FYI - did place under slide once during the day... Set off my detector. Never again.

I made a shelter similar to NMWildcat. Base made of treated 2x4s and plywood. Roof made of plywood and only installed in the event of rain. Even attached levels on two sides to keep gennie level and drove tent stakes thru 2x4s to keep it in one place.
