Cool Rear lights shorted because of rain

I own a Coachmen Freelander and the rear lights have shorted out because of water getting into the light enclosure.

I am surprised the lights are not waterproof!

MH is still under warranty so it should be no problem getting them replaced. Any ideas on how to prevent this besides sealing the lights with silicone?

Thanks!

Dielectric grease on the bulb bases and contacts. Proper gasket placement and seating. And a weep hole in the bottom.
