it won't leave you with a dead battery it will just take longer to charge. Put a volt meter on the positive and negative DC terminals of your converter when plugged in. In bulk mode it should read 14.4v

With a volt meter. I think it drops to 13.6 in absorption. Not sure and I don't have my manual handy. If absorption stays at 14.4v then you would need an amp meter. When the amps start falling off your are in absorption.

I doubt your convert will go into bulk unless it's really close to the batteries.

It's under the refrigerator in the 21DK, ~10' away. Would larger wires make a difference, in the current location?

I'm working on making the forward bulkhead cabinet space a utility area, possibly including moving the converter there. But that's a project for another day.

6 Gauge is good for 80 amps....more than enough. That new 9200 series is supposed to give the stage of charge with the pendant I believe.

I have a Surveyor 240 with WYCO 8955PEC converter. Last weekend dry camping had dead batteries (2 140 AH interstates) and my generator did not seem to recharge them after several hrs. I checked and had 13.6 v at the batteries after bypassing my disconnect switch (i think it was bad).

Progressive has a 9200 series in 60 amp and a 4600 series 55 amp replacement specific for the WYCO 8955. Not sure which one I should be looking to buy.

Another question, I have a Renogy 100 amp portable solar kit with 30 amp charge controller built in. Can you just clip to the batteries or where do you wire into the controller? Must it be disconnected if you crank the genny?

I'm not sure about your specific setup but I have an Onan 4k generator and Go Power 160w solar. All factory installed. I can run generator, be on shore power and have solar charging with no issues.

You should have no problem having the solar connected and charging when generator is running. As long as your generator or shore power is not putting out over 15.5v to the batteries you will be fine.

To test if your Wyco is going into bulk charging you need to have your battery connected and check the positive and negative DC lines at the converter. You will need to loosen the two top screws of the cover to remove. The DC wires will be on the right side of the convert by the automotive type fuses. Put a multimeter on the positive and negative lugs. If you are not sure what you are doing get some help. The left side has 120v AC 30a.

You could also put the multimeter on the battery leads while charging. If you see voltage 13.9v or higher you are in bulk mode. You won't see a full 14.4v because of voltage drop in the lines.

Either will be fine.
If you go with the 9200 series it will require modifications to the wfco case unless you mount it outside and behind the distribution panel.

Thanks guys I'll check the WYCO output. Not fun to tell the DW "Honey break out the candles" after I'd just replaced all the light bulbs with LED's.
