Roo: Electical problem on external power cord

This week I was camping beside a fellow with a Roo. I don't know that much about them except what I have read. He was preparing to leave the campground, temps have been in the 100's. He was out pulling up his stabilizers when I walked over and showed him my drill attachment with a swivel on it. As I was walking away he yelled, hey come and look at this, he told his wife to pull the power cord from the trailer but it would not come off. The connection was melted at the ground wire attachment. No breakers tripped while this was happening. He pulled the connection apart to get it disconnected. He had to take a pair of side cutters and cut the ground wire portion off. After he pulled out of the spot I got to thinking, I wonder if the ground connection screw was loose to cause this problem.

a loose ground screw shouldn't be a problem until there really is one..let me explain. normally there shouldn't be any current thru a grounding conductor. only during a grounding fault-aka-shorted to ground, should there be current thru the ground.

So....

1 - the ground and neutral wires are reversed somewhere.

or

2 - there is a fault condition somewhere in the wiring or devices.


my guess is the ground and neutral are reversed somewhere. it could be the pedestal or the camper.
