Strange EMS/autoformer interaction?

Sorry for the length of this but details help:
This is not a first outing with these items.
Connected as follows: 30amp Post,-PowerMaster autoformer,- PI EMS-30,-trailer.
Post had 50amp/30amp/20amp breakers. 30amp checked out fine with hand held checker and open ground detector. EMS ran check and turned on without problem.
Plugged extension cord into 20amp outlet and turned on breaker. This caused an over current situation on the 30amp breaker and EMS shut down. Turned off 20amp breaker and EMS reset.
Later that evening, with the refrig on electric, the coffee pot, two 12 volt lights, television and satellite box on, I turned on 1 more 12 volt light. EMS shut down everything and showed an "open ground" fault. Reset EMS and it recycled and returned power without a problem.
Any ideas on what would cause this? I turned on the same 12 volt light without problem after the reset. Do I just have a sensitive unit?
Is this something you have to live with to have EMS protection?
When only using the autoformer we never experienced these problems. I may have been having problems and just didn't realize it.
Thoughts please....

I am not familiar with the PowerMaster as I use the Franks autotransformer (it contains all of the EMS circuitry already so a separate EMS is not needed). It also only has one boost level of 10% instead of two (8% and 16%) like mine.

However, be aware that an autotransformer works by using a portion of the available amperage to boost the low incoming voltage.

If your campground experienced a minor brownout that reduced the incoming voltage (but more than the low voltage cut off of the EMS; yet below the boost cut IN voltage of your autotransformer) your autotransformer could have entered boost.

This spike in amps could have (even momentarily) increased the amperage sensed by your EMS to be above its overload and it shut off.

Thanks Herk. That would explain the shutdown.
I was going to call PowerMaster (VC-30) tomorrow but can't seem to find them. Does anyone know if they are still in business?

I believe they were the company that infringed on the Franks patent for voltage stabilization and was forced out of business (but don't quote me!).

It was one of the Franks competitors anyway and I think I recall it was them.

Yep; Got this from their web site http://powermasterrv.com:

Franks Electronics is owned and operated by Frank Izbinski is still the only "legal" source of Franks Autotransformers.

This is my review:

Franks Autotransformers

This is his web site:

Voltage Booster

Email frank here: f.izbinski@gmail.com

Be advised, he is a character but a wealth of information.
