Surge protection

So, we have a new 2014 Cherokee 39H Park model!, it's 50amp, we are using a reducer to 30amp, my question is!, does anyone know what would be my best option for a surge protector, Make, Model, etc. etc.., any and all suggestions welcome.

Most of us here recommend Progressive Industries EMS units. (There is a portable version available as well as this hardwired unit.) These have a lifetime transferable warranty and are Made In USA.

Is what many would recommend. It's a 50 a model, which you stated your camper had. Even though your hooked up to 30a now, I'd go 50 in case you move or power is upgraded.

For a hardwired model, you have to use a 50-amp in a 50-amp RV. You could go with a 30-amp portable, but not recommended.

I have a 50amp portable SurgeGuard and use a 30amp step down plug when 50amp isn't available. With that said I've had warranty issues with my SurgeGuard and would agree with others on going with a Progressive unit. Wish I would have from the get go.

I vote for some kind of protection regardless of brand...I've been a longtime consumer of surge guard & happy with it's reliability

In addition to surge protection, the Progressive EMS models also protect against high voltage, low voltage, reverse polarity, open neutral or ground, etc. Be sure to get a model that does more than just surge protection, as these other problems are all too common at campgrounds. My Progressive EMS has protected my RV from low voltage on several occasions, and a bad neutral once. A surge only protector would miss these things.

Also has a delay when power is first applied. This protects A/C, microwave, etc. if there is a short power loss. A quick "glitch" in power can destroy an A/C compressor if it is running at the time. I'm very happy with my Progressive.

You need to buy a 50 amp what your unit is rated for and wired for... atleast I would.

Yes I would 30 amp will not work with a 50 amp service for your RV. Your Rv is set up for a 50 amp service correct? not 30 amp?

I installed my progressive 30 amp two weekends ago in my new Evo. Ended up putting it in the storage area under one of the bunks and ran the remote out to the edge. Helps me watch amps being pulled in so that I may reduce power usage when dry camping. Went from an 14amp draw with every light on to a 4 amp draw with LED's.

I bought the external progressive when I picked up my TT last month and used it the two times we have been out. The first day I used it, it was pouring rain and I was worried the entire time that water would get in where the TT was plugged into it. I wish I would have seen this permanent installed version first so I would not have wasted the money on the other. Thanks to you all I ordered the EMS-HW30C from Amazon and will install it when it arrives. I guess the external will be stored in the basement or I will sell it.

EMS Progressive! Lifetime warranty. CW doesn't sell one that's comparable.
