I would also like one of those Progressive or similar...
But they're not even sold or approved (CSA) in Canada.
Anyone knows why ?

Mine is a hardwired Surge Guard.. Some also suggest Progressive Industries.. There's lots of info on here about them.. Main thing would be to have one...

Between the power pole and your camper distribution center inside your camper.

I mounted mine right beside my convertor.. I got the remote display for it and mounted it next to the slide and awning controls in the same set of cupboards..
If it's a 30A, #10 wire is good to run between the surge protector and the convertor.. If I remember right I had a large enough loop, I just cut the wires and put the surge protector in between..

Just bought my unit late last year and only camped once before I winterized it and put into storage. So I will have to do some more checking it out. But I do agree, proper surge protection should be in every RV. Peace of mind is good.

This is what the dealer suggested when we picked up the FW.
It has served well.

Read the very first post in this thread, today ..... They called it a power surge...........you will see immediately you need to install one before you hook the RV up again!!!!!!

I had the portable 30 amp TRC surge guard with my first trailer. It lasted about a year past the end of warranty before it crapped out.
Progessive Industries are more expensive, but they have a lifetime warranty.
Good luck,
Don

So other than the warranty is there a reason to go with the much more expensive Progressive model? I asked Camco what their Power Defender model 55301 protects against and this is what they said. And at around half the Progressive price, I am leaning toward this one.
Hi/Low Voltage Shutdown YES
Open Neutral protection YES
Reverse Polarity protection YES
Voltage on Ground Check YES
Clamping voltage YES
Surge Protection YES
220 Volt Shutdown YES
Miss-wired Indication YES
Surge protection YES
Reverse Polarity protection YES
