Surge Protector question

I have a ssp 30x progressive surge protector and twice last weekend at the state park my power went off at 4 am each morning .Campers close to me never noticed anything.Of course you are half asleep and think the worst so a check of on board fuses and breakers all ok.Look out to pedestal and surge protector lights are all off.Went out and flipped breaker on and off and all was good and surge lights back on.This was our first time out so I didn't pay attention if the breaker was actually tripped or would the surge shutdown if it was low or high voltage.I can't find much info in the directions but could call. The surge protector said ped was wired properly.

Surge Protector question

Since you got the bargain portable your not protected against high or low voltage which in my mind is more common then anything.

An open neutral is another common issue that could potentially be dangerous and your not protected there either.

You should have gotten at minimum the ems 30 portable.

The one you have is bargain basement for features.

If you had a surge you should have a fault indicator.

The units polarity tester showed proper wiring on arrival and departure. This unit says it has surge fault indication but I will have to see how I am informed of that. The units light variations in the instructions all are for wiring problems.

I have a 2016 XLR Thunderbolt toy hauler fifth wheel. The RV park I am hooked up at just recently had a power outage over the entire park and it blew out my automatic transfer switch. After two hours, when the power was restored, transfer switch would not switch back to shore power. When the electrician came out, I was hardwired to shore power and I'm waiting for a new transfer switch. I was advised to purchase and install a surge protector. Can someone help me decide what kind of surge protector I should buy. Is there one that will accommodate 20, 30 and 50 amp power pedestals? I've seen some that run from 60 to $70 and I have seen some as high as $300, do I need to buy a surge protector for each level of amperage?

Progressive Industries units may seem expensive when compared to other brands, but here's something to consider......Lifetime Warranty to original owner.

Surge and power protection is all they do, so when you're going to be that product specific, you better be good at it to survive.

Had mine for over six years.....and I'm a believer.

Still think it's an expensive purchase? What's the price to replace your televisions, microwave, stereo components, sound systems, computer toys?

Just sayin'

Very true!

Didn't take long either to get into the "It saved me" club... Was staying at Elkhart last month during a heat wave where I had two E6 low voltage shutdowns in one day...

I would go for the good EMS and expect to pay around $275 for a 30 AMP portable or about $330 for a 50 AMP. Good Luck

Quality doesn't cost, it pays. We have the Progressive Ind. hardwired 50 amp EMS unit with remote display in our coach. Transfered this from our Wildcat fifth wheel.

Surge Protector question

I had a board go on my dometic fridge. Long story, short version is I have a PI 30 amp portable EMS. I wasn't using it at home and my electrical cord shorted at the adapter plug. RV dealer said it may have saved the board!! $300 later I'm kicking myself for not using it.

I will never, ever not use it even for 5 mins.

Mine is connected here at home.......and last night, even at home, I got "low voltage"!! 99.99999999999% of local power company customers have no clue. If it fried something in the house (the trailer is protected!~!! LOL).....I'd have SOME proof!
