I'm looking at the Progressive Industries EMS-PT30C and the Surge Guard 34730, or the Progressive Industries SSP-30 and Surge Guard 44740 surge protector. The first two are $220-260 and the latter two are around $100.
As for the difference between them; its function, capability and price.
below is a few years old and not correct when it comes to the Surge Guard 34730 so ignore that, but you can see the differences between the two Progressive Industry models.
The PT30C offers better protection than its little brother - the SSP30 - but for 2 1/2 time the cost. The more pricier surge protectors protect against higher levels (Joules and Amps) and do things like over/under voltage, open neutral, and reverse polarity protection, automatic reset, etc.
I don't know if either the Progressive Industries EMS-PT30C or the Surge Guard 34730 is better than the other; but both offer better protection than the SSP 30 or the 44740.
I am not sure what are the most common problems needed for surge protection. Are things like open neutral, reverse polarity, etc common enough or is a good solid surge protector for $100 going to cover it?
I have yet to decide but I'll probably go with the PT30C.
