trouble starting generator

having trouble starting generator on 2012 sunseeker 2650. primmed using inside switch, took long time to start but finally did and i ran it for approx 2 mins. that was approx 60 days ago. yesterday, primmed it from inside, took long time to start and this time only ran for aoorox 5 secs and then it shut off by itself. as i'm a novice, am i doing something wrong??? could use any advise.

If the last time you started it was 60 days ago and if you have fuel in your tank that has ethanol in it and if you didn't put any fuel stabilizer in it the fuel could be bad. Fuel with ethanol can go bad in 30 days. And causes havoc with small engines like generators. Where you live may not have no ethanol fuel so it is very critical to stabilize if you will be keeping any fuel in. And to be sure it goes through the generator. I have non ethanol fuel where I live but I still stabilize get everything out I can and then run the generator out. Can't take any chances with small engines. In my owners manual it says in about 5 different place to use no ethanol fuel. The only thing I run fuel that contains ethanol is my truck because it goes through and doesn't have time to go bad. Even if you have a vehicle that doesn't get driven very often make to stabilize fuel and if possible use non ethanol fuel.

Remember, you need at least 1/4 tank of fuel to run the generator. The fuel pick up for the gen is set at that level to prevent running out of gas while running gen.

As stated above, i would make sure you have over 1/4 tank of gas first.

My carb gummed up in less then a month so I start mine every 2 weeks all winter long.
