Use a G24 battery box for 6V battery?

I am replacing the old G24 batteries on our TT with a pair of Duracell SLIGC110 batteries. I set one of them into the old G24 battery box and it's a good fit except for the height. With the lid on I used a flashlight to peer inside one of the mouse holes and it looks like the molded pillars in the lid make contact with the top surface of the battery and there is about 1/4" of clearance between the lid and the battery posts.

I would think this would be OK for the batteries - maybe not as water tight as a 6V box would be but we live in southern California and I very seldom pull the TT in the rain.

So what do you folks think, OK to use?

I would say you should be OK with that setup. I had an older trailer once that had exposed batteries on the tongue (no box) and they survived quite well.

If the batteries are on the tongue don't worry about it, you really don't need anything, mostly there to hid and protect from accidental short across the terminals. If inside then the box should fit and be vented.

Thanks all!

That's sort of what I thought but I figured I'd ask the folks that are smarter than me Today I'll wire them in and in a couple weeks we'll be out in the middle of nowhere testing them out!
