Using Generator in bad weather

I recently purchased a Yamaha 3000 to use with my tt. I know these portable units are not weatherproof. I am wondering how others deal with using their generators during potentially bad weather, especially rain. My tt is not a fifth wheel, so I can't put it underneath. If I am using the generator to run the AC at night and it starts to rain while I'm sleeping, I'm worried about what might happen to the generator or my tt. Are there any suggestions regarding the use of a cover?

I have a TT as well, and it is wet out here on the west coast lol. I am running a Honda eu2000, and I usually either set it up under the slide (I can lock it to the wheels and power plug is right there) or just inside the rear bumper underneath with the exhaust facing out. ( i can lock it to the landing jack in this case) it may get a little bit of splash on it, but not seriously wet or soaked.

Safe to assume that you are not in a CG?
Make a little "lean-to" and lock it to the bumper or put it under the slide out - if you have one -

i put our Honda 2000 in the truck bed under the bed cover.
you don't say what tow vehicle you have.

as was said, i don't know of ANY campground that allows running the generator all night.
will you be boondocking?

I have a Champion 3500 and I run it in the bed of my F250 that has a snap down tonneau cover covering the generator. The trailer is plugged into the 30amp RV outlet and at the same time I plug in a 115 volt clamp on fan into one of the two 115 volt outlets. I clamp the fan to the frame of the generator to blow air from inside the trucks bed across the cylinder head of the generator's engine back out, along with the exhaust facing outward out the tailgate opening that I keep open.

When I had a Honda 3000 and we boondocked, I used one of those plastic type tarps. I strung a rope between two trees, threw the tarp over the rope, used the grommet holes to tie it down(probably 6 to 8 holes) with tent pegs. The sides were about a foot or so off the ground. At the the part that went over the rope I used two pieces of light rope to hold the tarp in place at each end. The genny never got wet at all. The 30 amp cord was stretched out the maximum distance away from the trailer. I also left the 5 gallon gas container under the tarp as well as there was room. I could walk under the tarp, bending down to fill the genny.

Thanks for the responses. My tt is a toy hauler that I use boondocking at weekend giant scale model airplane contests throughout the Midwest. I wanted to stay in my own space at the flying fields that I visit rather than using area motels. Running the genny throughout the night won't be a problem. Just seeking ideas on protecting it from the elements. Thanks to all who responded.

I have a 2400 Yamaha that can either fit under the slide out with exhaust facing out or as others have said under the bed cover with tailgate open.
