WFCO out Progressive Dynamics in..
Last Friday while getting our trailer ready for a weekend camping trip I realized by WFCO 55 amp converter had died. I ordered a Progressive Dynamics 55 upgrade/ replacement from bestconverter.com which came last Monday. This is a pretty slick unit compared to the WFCO. With the use of a provided adapter it fit's right into in the power panel slot that the WFCO was held in. It requires swapping out the WFCO fuse panel with one provided with the PD unit. This was the time consuming part of the whole process. I just took my time and switched one wire at a time over to the new fuse panel. The final result was a nice clean installation with much better performance. The PD unit has an indicator light that tells you which of the three modes the unit is operating in, Boost mode, Normal mode or Storage mode. There is also a manual button that you can use to select the modes. Boost mode puts out 14.4 VDC to rapidly charge the battery up to 90% of full charge. Normal mode puts out 13.6 VDC to safely complete battery charging. Storage mode puts out 13.2 VDC to maintain a fully charged battery. I would recommend the Progressive Dynamics upgrade/ replacement to any others that have a WFCO that dies on them...In my opinion it is worth the extra money for more piece of mind..

Hi can you help me I have just replaced a WFCO 35 to a 45 amp on my 2006 Lexington Ford chassis Should it also charge my Ford chassis battery

Perfect!
When my wfco took crap I just replaced the actual converter.
Took no time at all putting the pd in the wfco housing.
I'm glad you changed over and nice to hear install notes

This was a pretty easy install too. Changing over the fuse panel took most of the time. With the location of the distribution panel being down low on the floor by the hide a bed made for some down low and slow working conditions. All in all I am glad I went with PD instead of another WFCO...

That is the vast majority of opinions that I have read. I'll be switching to PD at some point. Its just that my WFCO is working for the most part (except that it has never gone into bulk mode at 14.4v). That would be the primary reason for me to go with the PD in the future.

One thing to do as I do since my new unit is under warranty and it has a wfco currently is at each camping trip I turn on enough dc items to make the fan run. If the fan runs that's half the battle since the fan is the weak link in a wfco.
I wish it would quit running soon Lol!

Fairly easy to do!
Lets seee
Unhook battery! Accidentally remove converter fuses and install a piece of heavy gauge wire.
Accidently hook battery up backwards .......
Sit back and drink a 12er then order a pd!

Only nice thing about the WFCO converter, you don't need to make it die! Guaranteed it will die on it's own..

This is a problem with a lot of the WFCO's, they never go into bulk mode..

That is my understanding, too. They do great in float and probably will never boil the batteries but the inability to go to bulk is a problem they still can't figure out. Been going on for years, too. Our previous unit had the same issue.
