What a PITA this has turned into...or

If it was not for bad luck I would not have any

Here is the story in a short form.

#1-On Wednesday I tried to start the Generator on the 2008 Sunseeker and only got a clicking. Darn. Took the house battery to the shop and it had a bad cell. Bought a new battery and hooked it up. Pushed the generator button and nothing happened. So went and checked the battery... hooked it up backward... . Switch it and pushed the generator button... nothing again. Opened the generator cabinet and checked the fuse, popped. Replaced and pushed the button, popped again. Well I will work on it later, going to the campground don't need it this weekend...I have shore power.

#2-At the campground all is good, turned on the AC and could feel it vibrate, but not blowing any air. Well ok, it is not hot this weekend...turned it off.

#3-During the night the refer stopped working... little check light was on. Went outside checked the battery and it was at 12.58v, checked the shore power all is working...put the battery charger on to help... Next morning the battery was at 13.7v and the refer was working,, checked the converter and yes both fuses were blown. Replaced them. Still no AC or Generator

So the Generator still keeps blowing a fuse each time I try, the AC still will not blow any air, the converter seems to be ok now and charges the battery with the new fuses.. So what do I do. Take it in to a repair shop and use the GS Extended warranty and let them try to fix it or is there more fuses that are in the AC and what about the generator?

Sounds like possible logic boards got burnt with the reverse hookup.
Are the battery/batteries definitely hooked up properly?
Can you isolate the problem units?
A/C: could be a start/run capacitor for the fan circuit.
The generator: you should have two locations to start it. Does it blow fuses using either location?
Good Luck with the fix.

A/C: could be a start/run capacitor for the fan circuit....where would that be located?
Sounds like possible logic boards got burnt.... where is that located?

Thanks

Well I would take it in for Warranty but don't tell them you hooked up the battery backwards and hope they don't read this forum!

Just a thought: if you can, see if you can turn the crank on the generator with a ratchet or wrench one way or the other. I have seen my buddy's Oman starter get hung up on the flywheel and blow fuses when try to start.

If you go ahead and be honest with the repair people, they will likely find the trouble faster. And a good repairman is going to know what happened anyway.

Warranty on an 08?

Anyways, once you get to that point where you're out of options and you take it to a shop, be honest and tell the guy you hooked it up backwards. It may save you hours of shop rate dianostics which could be +/-100 bucks an hour.

AC Not Working

We had problems with one of our Cougar fifth wheels when the AC didn't work. Took it to the dealer and they said there were sticks in the unit. The next summer we had the same thing happen. No AC only a humming noise. I got on top of the coach and removed the shroud and lubed the fan so it turned freely. For some reason it was stuck. I had to do this every year with that coach.

Wise words.
They will know what happened eventually. Save them the time and you the money.

Look up Flight Services in Mechanicsburg PA. There is a guy there that they allow two hours a day to field calls of this nature. He is a real wizard, a nice guy, and will give you some things to do to isolate the problem, which can be a good thing even if you have someone who will look at it. It can save them time, and you money!

how can you say it's his fault without knowing why and what the problem is?

Cause he inadvertently reversed polarity to the entire DC system!

I have never had sticks jam my fan in the a/c but it can't hurt to look. 4 screws on the roof top removes the shroud. Then some screws to access electrical compartment. This will also get you access to the capacitors and fan. See if the fan spins freely. Be careful around the capacitors they store high voltage.
Honesty is your best bet. Wild Goose chases and un-necessary expenses. Good people try to assist but this will turn people away from assisting freely.
Logic boards are located in various locations. Reverse current will do damaging thing even just in a split second.
