When 25' cable is not long enough

While camping last weekend (our first in new TT) we scouted out some other camp sites at our favorite park. Some of these sites required a electric power cable longer then our 25' cable that came with our TT.

What is my best option when I need a 30 amp cable longer than 25 foot?

1. Add an extra 10' extension cable,
2. Get a separate 35' cable.

Here in Ontario the runs to the power post can be quite long in some parks. In my TT our shore power cord was about 30'. I also carried 2 X 25' and 1 X 50', to give me a potential distance of 130'. You may not need to go thar far, but I'd have a 50' 30A extension cord at a minimum.

I have a 25 ft. 30 amp extension cord & a 50 amp. 25ft extension cord. Just got the 50 amp one a couple of weeks ago. Got tired of the wife forgetting to turn the AC off when using her hair dryer and the microwave and then having to go to the post to reset the breaker. We haven't been to too many places that require more than that.

Thanks all for the prompt replies. At first I was concerned that a long run would cause a voltage drop but after reading the many post I assume that's not an issue.

I carry 1, 25', (factory) 30 amp cord, and 1 (8-ga) 40' 30 amp cord I made up myself. I get goose bumps when I have to run cords longer than 65'.

If park power is strong, the voltage drop should not prohibit running the AC. The problem comes if park power is low to start with and the voltage drop becomes significant.

If the voltage is normal, the current of your appliances is as rated; however low voltage will increase the current requirement of inductive loads (like the AC and the microwave) causing a higher than normal voltage drop in the cord.

This can cause the AC to run hot or not start at all; the microwave to burn out its magnetron, etc. A good AC voltage and amperage monitor is a wise investment in my opinion.
