Wind Generators

Curious as to if any of you use a small wind generator instead of a solar set up. Did a bit of web searching and found several small, lightweight generators rated at 400 watts for around $350-$400. One along with some type of telescoping pole would seem to be a perfect alternative to solar, probably cheaper also.
Obviously not something you'd need to set up for an overnight, but for an extended stay, would seem perfect.
Plus, wind/breeze also blow at night.

I just googled up "wind generators" and it brought up a lot of sites, including some that are dedicated to rv/boat.
Also, Amazon lists quite a few.
We don't boondock now, but have several longer 3-4 month trips planned in the next two years, and I'm sure we'll be camping without hookups several times. Just looking for an alternate to solar to keep batteries up. Something easy and light to set up.
Smaller units seem to weigh 15-18 lbs with a 3 foot diameter blade, pops out 400 watts, about 3 1/2 amps. Should be enough to keep batteries topped up.
Just in the looking/thinking about it stage.

what wind speed do you need to get the 400 watts? The one from sunforce needs 8 mph just to start making power. They also recomend that the turbine is place 20 feet above structures around it.

Valid point. But really wouldn't need 400 watts/3 1/2 volts. Most of your smaller trickle chargers like the Battery Tender only put out 1 1/4 amps, equivlent to about 150 wattts. That would require a lot less wind speed, and again, it would be over a long period of time.
As stated, I'm just curious, and only looking. Would do a lot more research before commiting.
