Wiring a 1000W Xantrex inverter ?

I need some guidance on wiring my newly installed 1000W Xantrex inverter. I just need to connect to my battery bank. I have 2 GC1 6V batteries, requiring approx 4 ft of wire, they are very close.

What gauge should I use ?

I am also worried about proper termination, what kind of lugs and how to crimp them properly ?

I was thinking assembled starter wires sold in auto part stores, most are gray or black... would that work. They're already crimped and pretty well made.

Thanks.

Use 0 or 00 wire only. Best place to get it is a welding shop. Buy what you need, get some lugs at Lowes and put them together. Don't forget a resettable breaker of fuse for the + line between the battery and inverter.

For under 5 feet, it appears the manual states a minimum of 2 AWG with a 150 amp fuse and 8 AWG ground. http://www.xantrex.com/documents/Pow...C(artwork).pdf
Is this the same unit you have?

The larger the wires you get the better, as you will get less line loss of current.

Remember your wattage.

Watts DC is the same as watts AC. So if you can potentially output 1000 watts on the AC side that is 1000W divided by 120 volts or 8.33 amps.

However on the DC pull from your battery to generate that 1000 watts you would need to pull 83.33 amps. (1000 divided by 12) Fuse and wire appropriately. A 75 amp fuse would ensure safety but might blow occasionally.

Take a look at the battery capacity discharge curves for a draw that big on your battery capacity. The graphs are on the forum in several places, but I will post them again if you wish.

Thank you for this.

Would you have a suggestion for a fuse 75A or a tad more I guess...

Maybe a url or link to one online somewhere, so I can see what it looks like.

Thank you Lou - just ordered a pack of 5 from an eBay vendor.

Amazon vendors are not as open for shipments to Canada.

This eBay vendor charges me $5 to send by USPS Mail service, that is reasonable.

I should be able to fit it in the battery box, between the disconnect and the battery.

You're a fountain of knowledge.

Hope you ordered the fuse holder at the same time, too.
You would not want to pay a shipping premium twice...

Oops, had forgotten but was able to add to the order a water resistant holder.

Will post some pics once installed.

Thanks again.

No, it's like this one:

Pretty similar it seems. Sorry I had not noticed your question...
