Wiring size and type

Not new to camping, just bought a 2019 Vibe 28BH. The small outside kitchen refrigerator on/off nob is on the back of the unit. The only way to access this nob is my removing a kitchen drawer and reaching in to turn the nob. I thought about making an access panel in the kitchen for it, but I think it would look terrible. The option I am looking at is running the outlet for the fridge to an on/off switch that I can access in the outside kitchen compartment. I can run the wiring from the outlet to the switch, but need to know what type and size of wiring to run from the switch to the outlet.

Thanks in advanced
Justin

Is it 12v or 120v A/C?

A/C: I would use 12/2 romex

12v: 8 AWG should be fine

To do it correctly, follow this diagram:
Where it says "break this tab", doing this will make the upper receptacle operate from the switch, and the bottom receptacle will have power all the time. I strongly suggest that you upgrade the current receptacle with a box and NEMA5 receptacle as well as a box and switch, all available at Home Depot or Lowes.

Good drawing. Per code, run a ground wire to the switch also.

Yes. I would also verify, because this receptacle is basically outdoors, that this circuit is controlled by a GFCI. Probably is, but you never know unless you check.

why not just flip the breaker ON when you want to use it? OFF when you don't?

Probably not on its own breaker being a small fridge.

If it is a on a 15 amp breaker, which I am almost certain it is, Just run 14 ga. No need to run 12 ga on a 15 amp circuit.

What I did

I put a power bar mounted next to my fridge that I plugged into the outlet and then plugged the fridge into the power bar. Worked great, cheap, and quick.

Doesn’t the thermostat turned al the way down shut it off? The light would still work but the fridge would stop.
