First, it would have been very helpful to know the actual Xantrex inverter model number. However, I can say I have never had such a situation occur with my 817-2000 (Freedom X 2000 120VAC). In my opinion only, the inverter worked properly and the issues experienced were due to the operation of the unit and nothing else. If shore power is not good or right, the Freedom X inverter will not transfer power, that is how it was programmed to work. Because it did not transfer power, it was forced by the user to experience conditions other than a poor shore power connection or bad AC power. If working now, no worries, the inverter was doing its job even if its operation was suspect.
First off, I never cut DC power to my Xantrex inverter while switched "ON". I use the on/off power switch to power it down and allow the transfer switch to close the transfer relay for AC operation if ever desired.
