2004 176SD LTD with ancient Carlisles on it. What to replace them with?

Hi all, I have a 176SD LTD eight foot box PUP with 145r12c Carlisle tires on it now. The weather-worn tires are enough to make me pucker up on every trip, so I want to swap them out ASAP. The problem is, this oddball size is going to cost me an arm and a leg. What can I replace these with, that would allow me to move into a more "easy to find" tire... in other words, ones that stores actually carry. I called FR today and they said check my sticker, which I did and it made no mention of what tires I should be using. With that being said, I told the guy I was thinking of moving to 13" tires, and he said some do that and don't have problems, but others have problems with the tires rubbing, etc.

I'm pretty lost when it comes to tire sizes and conversions, so I'll take any advice you have. Thanks!

They are common tires. Here is a reference. You can buy just the tires or tire/rim assemblies.

LOADSTAR 12 thru 16 in. Radial Tire/Rim at Trailer Parts Superstore
