Airing up TT tires while out on the road

I monitor my tire air pressure with Tire Minders and make sure they always have the correct air pressure. Never needed to add air in my TT tires while out traveling. If your out and need air in your TT tires what do you do? Most if not all gas stations don't have air that's easy to get too with your TT. All the portable air compressors that I've owned and seen plug into your cigarette lighter and will barely reach the tires on the tow vehicle never-less your TT. What portable air compressor do people use that will reach their TT tires?

I throw in the basement a pancake compressor or a 10 gal portable tank that is filled before I leave home. But my truck has a compressor for the air bags what will also do in a pinch, so 115v compressor while i have shore elect, 12v truck while on the road, and a crappy 12v cig for whenever, and a fully aired 10 gal tank.

You could install a marine 12 volt outlet on each side of the trailer at each wheel well. Then no problem using the portable 12volt compressor.

I extended my portable air compressor by adding a length of lamp cord and adding a marine 12v socket at the tongue jack area. Covers all tires. Check em every day, or pay the bill.

This is what I use, plug inverter in the truck with an extension cord to plug the air compressor.

I like the 12V models that hook direct to your battery.
Amazon.com: VIAIR 90P Portable Compressor: Automotive
Walmart has the "88" model shipped to the store for $70.
Between cord length and air hose length it reach all tires. Air hose extension is available also.

I got a ViAir 400P 12vdc off Amazon , it read as a "used" unit but came in orig box and looked brand new. It fills the tires on truck, trailer with no problem. I made an extension power line from the trailer battery to reach the tires and this is very easy to use as it puts the power switch right at hand when using the compressor.

A very inexpensive option to to go to walmart and buy a 12 volt extension cord with a cigatette lighter plug on one end and a female connection on the other.

We carry a dual tank Campbell Hausfeld 120 volt compressor. Will go to @ 110 psi. It is light and easy to carry. Have tried the 12 volt ones but they seem to take forever.

I use the Stanley FatMax Professional 1,000 Peak Amp Power Station. Take about 10 minutes to top off 4 tires.

If I forget to check the tire's air pressure I head to a nearby big truck gas station. If you have a 12 volt air compressor that won't reach then this would help

Amazon.com: RoadPro RP-203EC 12V 12' Extension Cord with Cigarette Lighter Plug: Automotive

I use a 12 gal I the garage at home. No it's not real portable. I'm thinking of getting this one for the 5r.

Good luck in your decision.

I use a power station too. Mine is a Harbor Freight 4 in 1. Comes in handy if you run your batteries down and need to use the tongue jack or slide.

I carry a 110v pancake style air compressor 150 psi with a 750 watt inverter in case I have no shore power. Very inexpensive at Harbor Freight!

My htt is still on order but for this and other applications I figured I would use my jump box/power station which has jumper cables, trouble light, compressor, cell phone charger, etc. Nice thing is the portability and multi use. I figure I could even use it to power in the slide if I mess up and run my main battery too low. Any thoughts on this?

Sounds like a good plan but I wonder about being able to pull in slides
with it. Others with actual experience should comment.
My plan is to not run my batteries too low to operate slides but if
that ever happens I think I can plug in and start my truck to get enough
boost to run the slide in. Also I plan to bring the Honda if we are camping
off the grid.

To agree with the others as far as filling tires-- either go with a cheap
$15 slime 12v compressor from WallyWorld with added 12v extension
cord(s) or use one of the more expensive ones that have internal
battery such as the Harbor Freight one.
Note- if you get the Harbor Freight one I'd advise getting the added
warranty. One reviewer said his battery went bad in 6 months but others
said the HF booster/compressor worked well for them. The battery
is replaceable if it comes to that.

I usually check the tires at home and fill up with the pancake, but my plan for on the road is that if I ever need to fill up, then stop in a parking lot with plenty of room, unhook the trailer and pull the truck around close to the wheels, then use my little 12V cig lighter compressor to pump them up. When I'm done hook back up and away I go.

I figure there's no need to carry extra stuff just to avoid unhooking.

My battery went down at dealership and they used power box to power my electric jacks, so would probably would work for slides too

I pull into a Shell Fuel Station. Have yet to see one without Air and Water service available.

After years of struggling with the slow, noisy cigarette plug-in tire inflators I finally paid a bit more and bought the Viair 88P inflator from Amazon. Wow what a difference. Much faster, much quieter, and it doesn't get so hot it feels like it will melt like the others did. I cannot reccomend it enough. From my batteries in the front locker storage of my 5er it reaches the tires just fine.

I would need to back in my 5r to air at some of those shell stations. Those air stations are for emergencies. And at $1.00 per it would really need to be an emergency.
