Hi folks, had to take a tire off the other day due to losing a wheel bearing. Got out the little socket and tool that comes with the camper. Those are a joke! I had not thought about needing to bring the right socket and breaker bar to get the wheel off, took over an hour to get it done cobbling tools together!

I carry the correct size tire iron and a bottle jack.

A big 4 way lug wrench is cheap and effective. Mine were so tight from the dealer, I had to borrow an impact wrench. I tightened them by hand to avoid that problem in the future.

I have changed a blow-out on the side of I20 in SC. I used my truck's jack and a 4 way lug wrench. I have always carried a 4 way lug wrench in my truck.

Even with these tool's I found it to be a rather SCARY situation to be in. I changed that tire as fast as I could...

While I haven't had a blowout while driving, I have had to change a tire on my camper from running over a screw that created a slow leak. That experience gave me the insight to carry a 2 1/2 breaker bar in my toolbox and I found that a set of lynx levelers can actually make the job of changing a tire really easy. Build up a base that you drive one tire on to and get the other tire (same side) free wheeling in the air. Pop the tire off and put the spare on, then back off the Lynx Levelers and tighten everything down. Works great!

I had a blowout on the Friday afternoon of Memorial Day weekend on an interstate out of Rochester. The flat was on the driver side which put it on the traffic side of the camper. The DW called 911 and explained the situation. 5 minutes later there was a Monroe county sheriff parked behind me with lights on. When I was done I went back to thank him. He said he would rather do that than need to be here for an accident.

Just a follow up; if you have aluminum wheels as we do, a 4-way lug tool will not go in the hole and grab the lug, the hole is too small.

I always have good sam road service number with me. I also carry a floor jack and a 24v impact gun (I use it on the stabilizer jacks)

You're right about that. I bought a set of thin wall, deep well sockets and breaker bar from Harbor Freight just for this reason.

I actually carry a torque wrench and use the jack from truck works OK get it changed in about 15 minutes. and on the way I go.

I carry my torque wrench in the trailer with the appropriate socket. Should be ready for the flat

I got out yesterday and did a retorgue check on my trailer lug nuts. I have a 13/16 1/2 drive socket that I use plus my torgue wrench. I have a breaker bar that I always carry with me. It is easier for me to use than a four way, which I also have. I like the idea of the Lynx Levellers...have a set of those also. Have been thinking about getting a set of reflectors to add to my stuff also.....

Reflectors are always a good thing to have. In IL I am required to run "D" plates on my truck which requires a twice a year safety inspection. Part of the inspection check is validating that I carry either reflectors or flares, so I've always got them with me. Every bit of visibility you can have if you are ever stranded on the side of the road is beneficial.

I carry a good tool set from Craftsman, a breaker bar, a set of impact sockets, a 18V DeWalt impact gun and a 10 ton bottle jack. I've heard people using impacts at the campgrounds for their stabilizers which makes one heck of a racket. I throw in my 18V drill for that. Faster and quieter and I can fix stuff with it.

X2 on the obnoxious noise of the impact guns.
We carry far too many tools, full socket sets in 3/8ths and 1/2 inch, breaker bar, deep sockets, torque wrench (a must have), etc, etc.
But I would rather carry too many tools than need something and not have it.

I have a set of safety cones to put behind the TT while stopped on the side of the road. We also carry a set of battery operated flares. I also have a reflective safety vest which I wear when working on the TT. I believe you can not be over protected when working on the side of the road with cowboys driving past at 70+ miles per hour.

Yep we are ready! Even more after our second trip out, We got a flat on the way home in the truck. Bad valve stem. Rod, almost broke the wrench that was in the truck and has since upgraded to a new breaker bar or as I call it oven starter!
