Axle Grease...what do I use?

I know, it's a stupid question. But, I'm man enough to ask it anyway. Getting ready to hit the road with our 2013 Wildcat and thought I would add some grease to the axles.

What do I use the choices out there are staggering, but what is the appropriate grease?

Thanks

In the "lippert axel, wheel bearings" section of your owners manual it lists the various compatible greases.Mine is out in the trailer or I would post them up.

Thanks for the help and assistance folks, much appreciated!!

I will be heading down to Lowes tomorrow to pick up some lumber to make a ramp for pulling one wheel up on and leave the other tire and wheel hanging so that I can turn the wheel while pumping in the grease.

Thanks again,
Jon

I've got a tube of this stuff. Is it good for bearings on a boat trailer too?

I use Lucas Red and also Green tacky. The drop point is like 460 degrees, one of the highest on the market. If you have the hubs that you fill with a zerk fitting you can change the color of the grease to make sure you get all the old out and new in. Found the green at the local Napa store...

Whatever you use make sure it is compatible with whatever is there now or the grease will turn to liquid and run away. If you don't know then take the wheel off, clean off the grease from the spindle and bearings and repack with whatever you are going to use. Not all greases like each other

I focus on high temp/pressure. Don't need water resistant as I'm not launching a boat. Also I switch colors as to easier notice when I've gotten that good flush of the hub. I use a lot of grease usually two to three tubes totally for four hubs. Do it on a nice hot day to help maintain that inner hub seal. Attachments show a healthy and an unhealthy bearing. The unhealthy bearing did get replaced after finding shavings in what poured out.

Lucas Red N Tacky is a lithium base grease and lucas Green N tacky has a polyurea base and you do not want to mix them according to the e-mail lucas sent me. I use red n tacky and it works well in everything I own.

Out of all the responses this is the most important. Like stated, if you don't know, start fresh. I too use the Lucas Red "n" Tacky in all my trailers. It's never a guessing game.
At the same time I recommend to replace the seals with a double lip seal if it doesn't have them already.

Gosh-dern! Really! Now im gonna have to repack the bearings on my boat trailer

Never done it before and have been mixing greases right and left. Let me put it on the to-do list and Google how it's done!

If it's compatible don't sweat it. On a boat trailer your constantly pumping grease through the hubs anyways. For boat trailer I use a synthetic marine grade grease. It doesn't mix with moisture at all compared to a standard automotive grease.

If you are useing zirk, don't pump gun more than 2 or 3 times to prevent grease blow out. It is best to repack by hand.
