Best way to jack up 23ss ROO when changing tire?

Any experiences out there as to what type of Jack to use (will Jack from Ford F150 work)or purchase other? Where on frame to locate the jack? On axle? Appreciate your thoughts, comments.

Do not jack on the axel. You want to jack on the beefed up part of the frame next to the axel. I use a two ton hydraulic jack for my vibe. It is only 3500 lbs total. On the double axels you can drive one wheel on to some blocks that are high enough to lift the other wheel off the ground. They make small ramps for this purpose, just don't remember the name rite now.

Use leveling boards, or the "lego type" leveling pads to make a ramp. I personally use the "tire aid" product. You pull or back the good tire up on it and it raises the bad tire off the ground. Just remember to loosen the lug nuts on the bad tire before elevating the good tire. Camping World and most rv parts stores sell the tire aid.

I carry 2 2x8 boards that I level the camper with but come in handy to raise one wheel off the ground if I need to change . Later RJD

I've been carrying the Trailer Aid Plus. Works well, just bulky.

Only works for tandem axles.

Yeah, I know Neil, he's got the same trailer as I do, that's why I responded.

I agree with jimandchris. I've had a TrailerAid Plus for several years and I'm convinced it's the best way to go. I had a blowout on one of my Chinese tires, when the Good Sam Road Service guy came to change it, I asked him if he wanted to use my TrailerAid Plus. He had never seen one. He used it and bought 3 for his service trucks.

Rapid Jack (from Anderson Hitches) is the easiest way. Made in USA of recycled material. I also use their "camper leveler". Easiest way to level side-to-side that I've ever used. Lot less fuss and easier to stow than any other system, IMO.

Start watching this youtube video at the one minute mark.

So y'all tell a guy NOT to jack by the axle, actually just under the spring works VERY well and will still equalize the weight between axles. You must jack under the axle to equalize the load OR the frame to pick the load off of both axles.

Think about it, when you got a double axle trailer the axles and tires are just barely rated to work together to carry the load, when you run it up on ONE tire and ONE axle on one side of the trailer ALL the load is on ONE tire and ONE axle. This is a very good way to BEND an already nearly overloaded axle and tire.

He doesn't have springs, therefore what you describe is NOT an option.

We had a blowout on I-90 last year towing to northern Wisconsin on a Friday July 3rd, traffic was insane, wheel was on passenger side and I had about 20" of clearance between the guard rail and the 5th Wheeler. We called a tow service and he was there within 10 minutes. The repairman had a set of staggered 2x6 boards stacked and had me pull the front (tandem) axle onto the blocks he brought, leaving the rear wheel suspended. He had the wheel off before I could get the spare to him and we were back on the road within 10 minutes from the time he got there. I was needless to say, impressed. So long story short, the repair guy we had used these and they worked very well. Wish I had taken a pic, but I think you get the point.

Regardless if he has springs, torsion or what ever, my point is NOT to put all of the weight of a double axle trailer onto one axle/tire, this is NOT the appropriate method to change a tire. Easy, yes, correct, NO! If it was designed to be able to hold the weight on one axle/tire it would come with one axle. How often do we see a 10k+ trailer on 5k axles. Already at max capacity, it's great a tire guy can change a tire in 10 minutes but all it takes is to get overloaded like that one time and bend the axle/spindle. My .02 worth.

So what happens when you go up a curb or other obstacle and lift one wheel off the ground?? Automatic bent spindle? There is a safety factor designed into the spindles. Just because it says 5k doesn't mean that if you put 4000# on one spindle it will bend or break.

When you have a blowout, most are pulled at least a half mile before even noticed. All the weight on one side is on the single axle for entire time at highway speed. I bought a tpms just so I know, been there, done that.

Best way to jack up 23ss ROO when changing tire?

We carry a Trailer Aid. Used for both our horse trailer and TT. Works great. Make sure you get the wider one. Ours has ramp on both sides. Easy Peasy to use!
