Brake Away Switch Pin Won't Go Back In

I have my 284BH in storage when we aren't camping. I go by almost every week to check on it. I noticed the break away pin hanging on one of my weekly checks. It took a while for me to find the switch. I tried to put the pin back in but it only goes in about half way. Just trying to see if anyone has had the same problem?

It has to be oriented just right. 90° off and it won't go.

Hopefully your battery isn't fully discharged from the pin being pulled, energizing the brake magnets.

Some disconnect switches don't isolate the trailer brake circuit from the battery.

When you put it in you have to give it a very firm push.

Was afraid I was going to break the pin. Will give it a harder push when I get off work this evening. Thanks

Not expensive to replace if necessary. See amazon.

In that event pulling the pin does nothing so you may as well leave it in.

Thanks For All The Help

I was finally able to get the pin back in yesterday. I noticed the end of the pin was blunt and not tapered like the sides. So I went back home and got a pair of pliers to hold the pin and a round file. I tapered the front, tried the pin, flipped the pin and it worked. Thanks again

Still curious about how/why the pin was out.

Me too. I didn't pull it out. It was on the ground when I went to check on the camper. If I wasn't as anal as I am I would never have noticed it. I don't know if one of the campers next to me did it or a kid did it. I will keep an eye on it. We had to move our camper over about 5 feet to make room for another camper so we were able to check that the brakes had released.

In that case it appears to be vandalism. Did you report the act to the owner? If the battery was active then there could be damage to the brakes due to the excessive time of power application. Who is going to pay for at least an inspection, or more.

At the least I'd find another location to store the TT.
