Break-away Switch Wiring

I am replacing my break-away switch. My existing break-away switch has a red/black wire and a white wire connecting it. My replacement switch has three wires, a white, a black, and a red wire. Any idea how I should connect the new switch?

I would guess you have a switch with an LED indicator that lets you know the breakaway is ready for action. On a Hopkins 3 wire unit the white wire is the ground wire and should be attached to the trailer frame. The blue wire on the switch will connect to the electric brake wire coming from the trailer brakes and the black wire goes to the battery. What brand is your switch and does the manufacture have a web site?

Were there any instructions with the new switch? Typically one wire goes to the battery and the other to the trailer brakes. Do a 'search' on the forum and perhaps you'll find a detailed diagram. Good luck.

The replacement breakaway switch is a Husky p/n 60462. It does have an LED light also. My original switch did not have a light.
