China Bomb blew yesterday

Was on my way to Orlando yesterday for a week of camping. About 15 miles down I-75 heard a pop I immediately pulled over and sure enough one of the Power King Towmax tires had separated. It was only starting to separate so no damage was done. I called roadside assistance and a hour later I was back on the road. I want to replace these tires and I am thinking of going to a LT tire just don't know if my rims are rated for the higher air pressure of the LT tires. I have a 2014 Crusader 325res. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What size tires? If they are ST 235 80R16 then you certainally can replace the will pops with a LT tire. There are actually two sizes that will work, 235 85 or 225 75 sizes are both very close. The 80 series in ST tires will have no direct replacement, so do some inspection first to determine which would be best suited to your RV

I didn't realize you can replace an ST with an LT tire, with that said, the rim would most likely have to be replaced also.

Why? As long as it is a 16 inch wheel it will be rated for either 80 or 110 PSI. Same as a 16 inch LT tire

Yeah they are 235\80 16R. I called Towmax and they are going to warranty the tire. It is storming here right now once it stops I am going to go it replaced so I have a spare to get home with (only about 130 miles). I will deal with new tires when I get home. So the rims can handle the increased air pressure of the LT tires?

I'll throw in that you should look into a tire pressure monitoring system.
It may have prevented the blow out if the tire was leaking prior to blow out.
They also detect over temp.

I use tire traker brand but there's many companies out there for rv use.

There are zero 16” LRE light truck tires that will provide more than 42# of load capacity reserves per tire for your trailer.

So, if you're wanting to confidently drive down the interstate highways at something between 65 & 75 MPH on tires better suited for your loads you’re going to have to go with a LRG 16” tire. Unless you have the upgraded rims rated at 3750# or above you will have to get some new ones.

The steel cased LT235/85R16G tire requires a 6.5” rim width. Most of the steel belted polyester side walled LT235/85R16G tires have a minimum rim width of 6”.

IMO going to anything above the 16” LRG tire is excessive overkill for 6000# axels.

On another note; Major tire manufacturers WILL NOT warranty replacement tires with 400# less load carrying capacity than the Original Equipment tires. Mainly because it’s not their decision to make and they don’t want to be responsible for it. Only the trailer manufacturer can make a decision like that official. Of course, vehicle owners can operate at their own risk.

Rims are not required to have load ratings displayed on them. They are required to have the manufacturer and model number so they can be readily identified by their owner. A call to the rim manufacturer with model/part number will allow the manufacturer to provide you with the information about load capacity. Air pressures are consistent with load capacity.

p.s. Did the tire dealer replacing the damaged tire give any indication as to the cause of the failure?

My day has turned to crap. Left the campground to deal with the tire. It was still raining but, had let up I get about a half mile from the tire shop I hit a deep puddle in the road and my truck shut down. It was a 4 lane road with curb and gutter so eased it up as a c
could to the curb I tried starting it for a minutes i was getting ready to call roadside assistance when a guy with a F250 stops and offers to pull me to a safe spot I tell him where I'm going and he tows me there. Once the rain stopped the tire shop ran a diagnosis and it shows a problem with the injector driver module. This is a Tire Kingdom not sure if they are capable of fixing it. Will post back later with the outcome of the tire and the truck.

That is a Tow Max blow out at 62mph on FL Turnpike. Damage to previous Fifth Wheel was over $3,000.

Is your tv a gasser?

If so fuel pump accident switch may have tripped.
Seen this before hitting a large curb.
Ford uses this for rear end collisions to shut off fuel pump

NM I see you have a duramax.

Found a place to take the truck to get it fixed. Tow truck will be here in a hour and 45 minutes. What a way to start the vacation.

The wife and two boxers are chilling at the campground at least.

The manager at Tire Kingdom finally looked at my bomb said it should be a free replacement said he would have to get approval from Towmax and would call me

I don't know who I pissed off to have the day I am having, the wrecker just left. The roadside assistance people didn't tell him it was a crewcab longed dually even after I made a point of telling them 3 times. My truck was almost as long as his flatbed and was wider. Waiting on the assistance people to call me back with a new eta. It is actually getting comical now.
