Closed vs flow-thru TPMS systems
Any recommendations on which is better- a closed TPMS system or one where I can add/let out air with the sensors in place (flow-thru)? Preferred brands?
Thanks

I have the Truck System Technology sensors on my truck and 5th wheel. Originally I had the flow through as I liked the idea. Within the first attempt to air up my tires, I decided I didn't like them. It seemed to me that it took way too long to put a small increase in tire pressure. Maybe the orifice was undersized in the sensor. I traded them back to TST for the standard 507 sensors and they work great.
That's my experience.
I have been using this set over three years and no issues. TST is easy to work with and responsive if you have issues.

I too have the TST-507 with NON flow-through sensors.
The flow through's were too big and stuck out too far.
I have removed the anti-theft outer covers from my non flow-through's and they easily screw on and off like a valve cap if air is needed. Made for a smaller/lighter weight sensor too!
I have found I remove them (or a valve cap) WAY less now than I used to.
I simply fire up the monitor before a trip and if the sensors show good pressure there's no need to stick the gauge on there anymore to verify.

X2 on the 507 with non flow through. I add air maybe once per year and that is due to the change in cold temperature going from north to south and visa versa. You will find that the only reason that you needed access to the schrader valves...was to measure the pressure and the TPMS does that for you!

I have the non flow through. Does everyone use metal valve stems or rubber?

My coach came with metal stems, so there was no problem. However, I believe that TST indicates that the non-flow through sensors will not overload rubber valve stems and others who have rubber stems have seemed to agree. Obviously metal would be perfect but the low mass of the non flow through sensors seems low enough.

I'm still using the factory rubber stems (short) with my non flow-through's.
I did slip on the chrome sleeves to keep them from moving.

TST Flowthru vs Non-Flowthru Sensors
Texbahrs
Like these other folks I also use the TST 507 non-flow thru sensors on my RV. I have rubber valve stems also and TST recommended the non-flow thru sensors for rubber. I have used them for several long and short trips and they have performed perfectly. I too use the metal valve stem sleeves and they work great. Don't think you will go wrong with the non-flow thru sensors.

I have the TST507 with flow through on the coach and closed on the toad. Works great after two years. Don't be fooled by the TST510; it's actually the older system that was replaced by the 507.

I have metal valve stems. I use flow-through sensors because ...
.
.
they're what I have!
(No problems though)

I have the closed style with the security cap on my TV and TT. I am using the EEZRV TPMS system and it has worked flawlessly from day 1. I have yet to install the direct power plug for keeping the unit charged when on the road (I use the cigarette lighter receptacle but want to eliminate the wire). I plan to pick up power from my front map lights since I have mounted the monitor high on my windshield adjacent to the sun shades.

I used the flow thru's and took Them off. Hard to follow while driving one, false alarms not taking air.batteries the but to change, and now that I'm pulling a toad Id have to track 4 more. I drove an 18 wheeler for 42 years without them. I'm back to visual, guage and tire billy

I have the non flow through. Took the locks off because they're worthless. As soon as the sensors get dirty (and they always do) enough of the dirt gets trapped to the point the locks don't free turn any more. Since they don't free turn you can just remove the sensors without the tool.

X2 on the 507 non-flow thru. The flow-thru would stick out past the wheel. I used rubber stems for 6-8 months until I upgraded the tires then I added the metals stems.

Great thread as I'm in need of a good TPMS and looking at the TST507
Now the next question is buy direct or a place like Vulcan Tire who is a little cheaper than direct from TST. Thoughts?

I ordered mine from them... good service and fast. Memory tells me they offer an extended warranty if you buy from them, but I am old.

I have the TST 507 TPMS with the non-flow through caps. Still have my original Chinese tires. This will be my third season with them. I have over 30k miles on them. I fill/check my tires before I leave and rely on the TPMS to monitor temp and pressure. Very seldom have I had to add air. I also don't worry much about minor fluctuations. I consider morning temperatures, running temps, whether they are on the sunny side of the trailer, etc.
This was one of my first purchases and consider them an absolute necessity.
I did my shopping on line; got my best price that included a two year warranty and went directly to TST. They met the price and the two year warranty. Excellent people to work with.

I got my 507 system online from TECHNORV with a 3-year warranty. They ordered the set from TST. When TST send the wrong sensors, technorv copied me on an email to TST asking them to correct the problem which they did.
