We've discussed items that should be performed and if they were not then yes it might be cheaper but not of much value. If some of those procedures were not performed it's hard to compare. If the drums were not machined that's one. If seals were not replaced that's another. Determining if the bearings were properly examined is real important to determine if some were re-used and should not have been. How they examined them is very important. Some bearing wear is difficult to detect if you are sloppy. Yes there are differences in the costs of bearings and quality. Timken bearings are good but I'm not sure where they are made now. I prefer to use Toyo bearings. They are made in Japan but they come highly recommended and are not to expensive. As I earlier stated shoes could vary from $20 a set to $80 a set.
In my opinion if the shop indicated to the OP the proper procedure for burnishing the shoes that indicates a quality concerned shop. Some disagreed with me regarding the issue of burnishing shoes/pads. OK if you don't believe me then look it up on the net. I happen to believe it based on readings, experience and 35 years in the field.

I offer my years of experience, as I'm sure others do, not for pay or for pats on the back but so those on this forum get quality work done on their units and so they don't waste time and $$$$$. We also do get some satisfaction by doing this. From time to time some may disagree and that's OK. Research what is offered to you and make your own decision.
