Dodged a Bullet

Was lucky on Saturday. Went to Ocala and picked up our 5th wheel after some warranty work. Drove back to Space Coast. Traffic was a bear on I-75 and Florida Turnpike. When I finished parking I noticed this big bubble in drivers side front tire. Just glad I wasn't changing a tire along any Interstae this weekend.

4 new Maxxis ST235/80R16 tires going on tomorrow...

I did hit quite a large pot hole on the Turnpike. Not sure if the damage is indicative of that or not. About 500 miles ago I checked every tire, felt all over for any bubbles, and did the spin test for a wobble. Found none. I run a TPMS and of course saw no pressure change as this was a blowout waiting to happen.

Ouch! My only exposure to this was a long time ago. Riding with my girl friend at the time in her car. The car started bouncing - thump, thump.... We stopped and I went around and checked the tires and found one with a bubble. We put on the spare and headed back down the road. A few minutes later, BANG. Scared the ___ out of us. Stopped again, checked all the tires on the ground - they were good. Popped the trunk and found the source of the explosion. Turns out her dad was a fan of retreads.

Good to hear you got home in one piece.

LOL, years ago my dad was a fan of retreads but this was in the late 60's and they were on a light car, my 1960 VW Beetle.. never an issue with the tires or the car as a matter of fact...

Yes, thanks we did get home safe..

They are Constancy. New replacement are $80-90 each. Obviously a pretty cheap tire..

They are just over a year old with just under 8000 miles.
