Electric brakes

Still getting used to my TT. Have a 2012 high wall 277 and find that the brakes are a little grabby. Have dialed back the brake controller but still feels weird. After driving only a few miles, one brake drum is rocket hot and the other I can put my fingers on. Is their an adjustment to make?

the brakes can be adjusted. u may want the dealer to look at that; there may be another problem in there.

YES!
Don't drive it if you have a really hot drum. You can damage the brake or
even cause a bearing or wheel failure.
It needs adjusting.
The adjustment is fairly simple if you're inclined to do it or take it to
the nearest dealer soon.

i believe the reason i'm concerned is that that trailer had to be delivered to the dealer. i don't see how the brake could have been tight for that distance. i would pull it and inspect it. if u have problems pulling the drum, it is too tight.
the other half is that i don't think u would actually feel the grab if only one brake was grabbing. u may have other problems...a bearing? worth a look to make sure.

abt the 2 post under general tech and repair, there is a post abt "ultra lube axles and bearing procedure". if u scroll down there are a couple post with pdf attached. what ur looking for (bakes an bearings) is there.
at the bottom of the rear of the hub, is a oval rubber plug (actually rectangle with rounded ends). pull that plug and u will be able to see a star wheel. rotate that to tighten or loosen the brakes. there is a special tool or u can use a screw driver.
u will need to jack the wheel to be able to check for drag. a small amount is normal.
before u start, with the wheel jacked up push the top of the wheel in and out and check for play in the bearing. u should be able to feel something but it will be barely noticeable.
sense it appears that it is only one giving problems, u may be able to compare the play and the rotation drag against the one not giving a problem.
if u go to the point of pulling the drum, when u put it back together, i believe they tell u to back the nut something like thousants, for that i would back off 1/4 turn then increase that until u can put the carter pen back in. i wouldn't back off more than 1/2 turn. u need room for the bearing to expand.
with only one giving a problem, i would highly recommend pulling the drum and inspecting the bearings and brakes. it could easily be something other that a dragging brake shoe.
if u haven't pulled one, the one nut on the axle is the only thing holding the wheel on. keep everything clean. on the bearings ur looking for discoloration of metal from over heating. normal is silver and shinny. run u finger around them and see if can see or feel pitting. pitting isn't good. check the brakes and assemblie and see if anything looks wrong ie maybe a spring broke or came loose.

above all, before u get into any of this, pump some grease in there and see if ur problem goes away. there have been a few post abt the factory shipping the axles with the bare min of grease in there. one other person wrote abt having his hubs get hot and pumped grease in and solved the problem. on the grease, u pump slowly until it starts coming out around the nut near where ur pumping it in. i believe ur going to be surprised at how much it takes to fill it.

Is the drum/ wheel that's getting real hot happen to be the left side ?
If so check the ground wire going from that wheel at the conector to all the other wheels. If theres a bad ground, the other wheels will not work properly. Your loosing amps and voltage. The same thing happened to me. You could fry an egg on the rims.
I did every thing you could think of, from cutting the drums, adjust the brakes several times, replaced the drums repack the bearings etc. Even the dealer had no clue wat was wrong.
So hears what i did to fix the problem on my 2011 3065 Rockwood Windjammer with less then 100 miles on it.
First I removed all the fasteners that the factory used to connect the wireing to the magnets. + & -
I soldered all the wire conections and added an extra ground from the main junction box to the frame at the front of the tt so the system had a secondary groung threw the hitch to the truck.
The ground wire on my tt was white, bouble check before you add the extra ground !!!!!
I re adjusted all my brakes, double checked every thing else, So far i put aprox. 200 + miles on the tt.
All over heating wheel/drum and locking up issues were resolved after i did this.

Thank you to everyone with the help. Took it to the dealer and a bearing seal had let go putting grease all over the shoes. Now I have enough time for a weekender!

Dealers are you best friend.....until you buy something. My dealer could not have cared less about our problems last year after we bought the camper. Forest River has been great in helping us out.

I know brakes heat up from friction - way too hot to touch, but as a general rule of thumb, how hot is "too hot"?
I'm curious because I've got an infrared temp gauge and I'm going to check my drums\wheels and hubs this weekend after towing just to see if there's cause for concern with any of the wheels on my TT.

nevermind....I think this thread answers my question! it makes sense that the drum brake cover heats up less than rotors would but I sure wasn't going to touch them with my finger to find out!

I drove for about 30 minutes with moderate braking then measured temps at the hubs and brakes with my infrared thermometer. My front hubs\brakes read 120 degrees, the back read 159. The readings were the same left\right. Does this seem within normal range?
