Electric tongue jack problem

It has stopped lifting or letting down tongue. Has power but fails to operate up and down. Had to finish taking TT off hitch manually. Repairable or buy another one? 3 years old on it. How much if new? DIY take off, on or need to take in? Any suggestions appreciated.

Just because you have power to it doesn't mean you haven't lost ground. With either 12v test light or voltmeter, go from the jack housing to the frame near where it is bolted to. Have someone activate the lift. If you see voltage on the meter or the lamp lights, you've lost ground. You should be seeing no light and no voltage.... take it off and clean up metal grounds and be sure the star washer is between them.
BTW youroo has a good reccommendation , the Barker HiTorque recirculating ball jack is a winner. Still got mine from the trade in and will hang onto it as a spare when whatever brand FR put on the new TT

should be fixable. Block the front up where you can safely work on it and it is holding no weight.

We had a similar problem this summer - our trailer, which we bought used, came with a Barker 2500 jack, which wouldn't raise up. Called Barker and it turned out to need a new toggle switch, that was $18. The guy there was really helpful. If yours is a Barker, you can call them and he can troubleshoot.

Sounds like if you have power into the head, then you have a bad switch.
Replaced many and the are easy to do. get the switch from your dealer and just switch one wire at a time. Or take the head into the dealer and ask them to install new switch.

I had a Bull dog jack once that when you activated the switch the motor would run but just made a clicking noise and wouldn't move up or down. Stripped gears. It happened at the dealer and they replaced it for free.

Betting it is the switch. Happened to mine, One wire at a time cause there are sevenral wires on it.

I had failure and discovered that even though I had power, my ground was faulty. Removed ground wire and cleaned surface. Been working fine for a couple of years now. Check your ground for connectivity.
