Expected brake life

I am getting my trailer ready for this year's cross country adventure. The brakes seemed good when I put the camper in storage last fall, but I am wondering what is the expected life on brakes. I realize it all depends on the type of driving and all, but at what point should I pull the drums and take a look?

Yearly is a good idea, pull the drums, clean, inspect and repack the bearings, inspect the shoes for cracks, magnets for wear, clean and adjust the brakes.

X2 on annual bearing inspection and repack . In 30,000 miles have replaced bearings but never brakes. Although brakes are proportional to driving speed.
