First blown tire.

My day had finally came today. I blew the right front tire on our Surveyor. Our tires are the OEM tires, Towmax STR power king. Our TT is three years old and we agreed we would replace them next year. Well this morning on I-75 S just after we left Cordele, GA. Tire pressure was checked yesterday prior to heading out. Cruise control was set at 65, in the right hand lane. We heard a pop and I felt the TT "wiggle" a bit. DW asked what was that, I told her we blew a tire. I was off the road and parked in short order. We don't have TPMS, but have been thinking about installing a system. Not sure if it would have helped today. I use a laser thermometer and check tire temps at each stop.

Any damage to the trailer or just a blown tire? Sounds like you handled it well.

I think you were very lucky getting 3 years out of those blowmax tires AND you seem to have had minimal damage. Congrats!! It is sad when the life expectancy of ST tires is 2 years. So what new tires are you looking at?

I'm absolutely amazed that your Towmax tires lasted that long. I blew all 4 of mine the first year in less than 2,000 miles. Those tires are just enough to get the TT off the lot and not much more.
Please make sure you record all the info on the sidewall and report it to NHTSA so something can be done about it. If people don't report the blowouts, we will still see this garbage coming out of the factories. Take lots of pictures of all the numbers on the edge of the sidewall so you can send them to NHTSA.
You need to give some serious thought to replacing all the other tires ASAP.

Zero damage to the trailer, sorry I should have gotten that in there first. We have had some issues of throwing money out the window this year which trumped replacing the tires this year. So we are getting tire put on here in Tampa at a Goodyear shop. That one will be the spare till we get home. Then I will research tires and replace all tires at home.

Give Maxxis M8008 a look. Great tires IMHO.

Pretend I am a see'er. Ha ha

I am thinking cord separation or impact damage.

Will see what someone who actually knows says.

I hope it is not far to home. In my experience, one flat has always turned into two (tire on the same side). Don't know whether the first flat damaged the other tire or the stress of all the weight being on the remaining tire caused the failure. It has happened that way to us 3 times over the years. Each time it was always at least 100 miles to the next town where we could buy tires, and we just didn't make it. Hope you have better luck!

That is my fear as we will not leave here without a new spare. From Tampa we head to Ft Wilderness for family fun. I am going to read, research, poll everyone, Google and pray when the search for new tires are going to happen the week we get home.

I have completely goofed my posts. All day I have been thought of what to say. I was suppose to start with "My tire got tired and retired".

"LOL" - Your version is funnier and more accessible than television commercial running in some markets, similar line ....

Seriously though, "Thank You" for detailed information and excellent pictures. Just coming up on two seasons, we have the same concerns on our minds. While we have been sorta low mileage, that doesn't affect the effects of time and seasons.

Best of course, you got through it safely and with no damage.

Shoot me a message with when you're at Fort Wilderness. We get there in a week or so.

I picked up the new spare today. I also retrieved the blown tire as well. Once we get home and settled I will follow up with more info and pictures of the suspect tire. I did speak with the tire guy today. He said it looked like the tire took a hard impact which broke the belts. We did have some rough road patches on I-75 S Friday. Ependydad, we head to Ft Wilderness tomorrow. Once we are there I will PM you out loop info and my contact info.

If the roads were so rough, why didn't your tow vehicle tires blow?

I'm of the opinion that all ST tires except Maxxis are dangerous.

We opted for upgrading our 5th wheel 15" STs to 16" LT tires. Limited budget and reviews led us to using a Korean LT tire: Roadian CT8 HL The tire in 16" size has slightly better load capacity than our 15 STs.

We have almost 10k miles on them this summer and are 100% satisfied with them. I like them so much I will purchase these to replace my Michelin LT tires on my F350 when they wear out.

I personally now carry two spares. If you have a blowout on a tandem axle trailer get both on the same side replaced. I had a blowout and 1,000 miles later the other one failed. Lost 2x 4hrs 8 total of vacation at tire shops.
One tire abruptly take the weight two are suppose to carry. Second one had non-visible damage.

Just replaced all 4 constancy, china made tires with MAXXIS 8008 10 ply (E) rated tires, maxxis tires are much stiffer and a lot heavier. Now I feel more relaxed towing my 5th wheel.

When one tire blows, the other one can get beat up from the rubber flying... and does carry more weight. However, it does not carry all the weight. The blown tire and wheel still carries a lot of weight.
