That's a good thought. On long trips or hot weather, any stops, I check tire/hub temps. to make sure all is OK!

Depends on the style of flex-line...

Some are very prone to leak (the type that use a swivel or knuckle to connect to the inner valve stem) - and some are very reliable.

That said; we replaced all the flexible extensions with hard lines on the duals at the fire hall - too many problems with leaks (keep in mind, an 80,000# aerial presents different challenges than a 9000# dually pickup).

No matter what type of extension you use - check your pressures regularly, both for safety, and to improve the life of the tire...

This is why you use a Tire Pressure Monitor with a heat sensor

Does not tell hub temp. So if a bearing is going bad, may not find it till too late. Just my thoughts. Haven't used tpm in 50 years on countless vehicles. Bad run of Mich. tires on RV and Tom didn't say ****!

Actually, it will if it get's hot enough. I had the adjuster spring break on my right front trailer brake and I got an alarm for high temp. The heat was radiating from that hub and must have passed some heat on to the tire. I had to let that puppy set for a while, so we ate lunch and then; I pulled the drum off. When I saw what had happened, I was glad I had a TPMS!

Traveling with two old dogs and not pushing over with excellent maint. We usually stop every two hours traveling. Once a year or before a big trip, pull hubs, clean bearings, repack, adjust brakes and go. To is any trip. 70000+ must be doing something right.

Verified pressures with Michelin

Just an update: I was challenged on my calculations regarding tire pressure. This is safety so I thought I should double check my calcs. I called Michelin and verified that I am using the correct chart and using it in the correct way. They came up with the exact same pressures as I did and then referred me to the chart I was using at Michelinrvtires.com. 50lbs in the front and 60 lbs in the rear. This is correct for my load.

Interesting to note: the first Michelin guy I got took a long time on hold and came back and gave me a pressure that exceeded the max rating on the tires. When I told him that, he put me on a long hold and came back and told me that I was overloading the rear tires. I said " really I guess Forest River could have selected the wrong tires but ...... wait a minute. Did you remember, these were duallys. Did you check for a single rear tire?" He acknowledged that he made that exact error. At this point I said, "this is a safety issue and you are not giving confidence that you know what you are doing." He said he understood and put me on hold ...... and hung up.

The next person I talked to seemed to have it together. I am waiting for the online survey. They need some training.
