Hopkins TPMS - Good?
I have been considering a TPMS to put on my pop up.
The etrailer site sells the Hopkins TPMS for $300. I noticed the install is fairly easy as all I would need to do is take off the valve stem cap and replace with a sensor. Seems nice and easy.
Other TPMS sensors seem to be inside the tire. That would be a bit trickier to install.
Is there a preference? Do these sensors cause the tires to go out of balance?
Thanks.
Vin.

Can not give feedback on Hopkins TPMS. I use the TST 507 system and after 4 years had no issues with it. Saved my bacon once. It is a popular TPMS system here on the forum. Just do a search. I got my tires balanced with sensors in place.

I'll second the TST system. No problems at all.
Just looked at the Hopkins system. It appears that you have to keep it plugged in at all times. The TST system has a built in battery. I usually run it for a few days, then plug into the TV's power outlet and charge it will camping. And if you forget, you can always plug in while driving.
And that Hopkins screen...blue with white...I wonder how that would be on a dashboard on a bright sunny day? Years ago, I had a blue screen white letter XM radio device and that was next to impossible to read during the day.

I used the TST system in the past and loved it. Any monitoring system is better than none so if you're okay with the screen than go for it.
I will add that you should replace your valve rubber stems with metal ones and have the tires balanced. The extra weight of the sensor could wind up causing more problems that it fixes.

I have the Hopkins but I haven't used it yet. I would suggest that if you go this route to have metal valve stems installed to protect your sensors. Hopkins says if your rubber stems are an inch or less long you should be ok. But if they are longer it would be a good idea to have them replaced. It keeps the sensors from being banged around and damaged. I would imagine this is true with any like system.

I also use and recommend the TST TPMS 507. TST customer service is beyond fantastic and their product "just works."
I can't comment about any other system, but it would be hard to imagine any other TPMS that could beat TST!

Bought the Hopkins in 2010 when we bought our Silverback. Had problems getting the monitor to read the sensors. Customer service said we needed the repeater. Bought it and still had problems getting it to read. Started down the road and got 10 miles, a sensor goes off no air pressure, Check it out nothing wrong. Continue on about a mile it goes off again. Removed the sensor and continued on for about an hour another sensor goes off. Same thing, nothing wrong. Removed the rest of the sensors and tossed everything in the back seat until we got home and called customer service, person to talk to wasn't there and apparently still isn't. Bought the TST couldn't be happier.

I would recommend that when having wheels balanced on trailers or 5er's that you have then lug centered balanced. Dealers will not normally lug center balance and I have found some that didn't know what I was talking about. Rims normally have a boss that centers the rims but that is not the case on trailers

Great thoughts everyone. Thanks. It is looking like the people have great things about the tst. I will look into that.
The 507 starter kit is also $260.

Question for all TST 507 users - do any of you run this system on short rubber valve stems, or do all of you run only on metal valve stems?
