Jack up TT Under Leaf Spring U Bolts?
Having trouble searching on iPhone. Just to raise the wheel an inch to pack bearing and adjust brakes. Can I jack under u-bolt?

That is how I plan on doing it in the event I have a flat tire, bought a stubby hydraulic jack.

Thanks. I have the bottle jack and a chunk of 4x4. I figure if I just barely raise one wheel at a time I should be OK. I will also put a jack stand under the frame.

I would think that's an awful lot of weight for a skinny little U bolt to support. If you can get at the frame to put in a jack stand that's where i'd be jacking.

Jack as close to the wheel as possible.

Always use a stand
But jacking up on the u bolt is a proper method we use on heavy trucks all the time. Also the plate under the axle or on the spring. Just not on the tube unless right next to the plate and u bolts

I welded a 6" long piece of 4x4x 1/2 angle to the end of the bottle jack ram so that the "V" is up and lifts against the U-bolts.I use a 20 T jack just because the base and ram are bigger.Ive had this in multiple trailers since the 1970's and it works every time!

I will be using the 4x4 on top of the jack to spread the load between both bolts. I may just bring my big floor jack as well.

That is a great idea...and a good reason to get out the plasma cutter and welder! Thanks.

good for dual axle trailers
I found a good solution for doing one wheet at a time with a fairly inexpensive device called a Trailer Aid Tandem Tire Changing Ramp. You drive one wheel up on it and the other wheel is held 1.5 inches off the ground. I think it is safer and faster than a hydrolic jack. There are several places to buy them but they are a little cheaper at Amazon.

Doesn't work for all trailers. I can drive one axle onto a 3" ramp & the other axle is still on the ground. I was going to buy one of these but thought I'd make sure raising one axle would raise both. Glad I experimented first.

Yes, you can jack under the u-bolt. Jacking on the frame, particularly on an ultra light TT or 5er is a no-no. The frame is too thin to adequately support the weight.
Our dealer also recommended placing a 2"x6" ramp resting on a chunk of wood and driving the trailer up the ramp until the other wheel is dangling. Then work on the dangling wheel assembly. Safer than jacking 'cause the ramp and wood chunk are solid.

We tried that and our axles are too far apart for that to work. Thanks though.

Yep, that is a good thing to have for flats and if you are hooked up. I have one and it is excellent. However if you are not hooked up, the bottle jack is the best for maintenance in storage.

I carry two jacks. 5 and 20 ton. I lift the frame first to unload the axles with the big one then jack on the bolts just enough to clear the ground with the smal one. I carry large 6X6 blocks to adjust the jack height.

Floor jack under the u-bolts worked fine.

For those using the "Trailer-Aid", does it work with 16" tires?

It's not tire size that causes an issue it IS the suspension.
