Landing gear on front of Sierra fifth wheel

I lowered the landing gear this morning to get the water to run off of the top of the slideouts. When I went to raise the front up to get hooked up to the truck it ran slow and eventually stopped. The motor and gear box seemed to jump around. I thought maybe the battery was dead. I ended up cranking it up manually as my wife held the extend button in. All of the slides and everything else seemed to work fine. With pressure (weight) off of the gear it seems to go up and down fine. Any thoughts from anyone on this. Is the gearbox bad?

Was it hooked to shore power or just on battery power?
If just on battery power I'd suspect a weak battery or loose connection.

Battery/shore. I disconnected the motor from the gear box and it seemed to work fine. I'm thinking the gear box is bad. I can't find any numbers on it to get a replacement. I don't know if it is a standard item or different.

Post a picture of the gearbox and someone will know what it is.

Yes, my gear box locks like the one you posted. It's black and I'm told plastic. With no weight on the legs, they go up and down no problem. I had a heck of a time getting it back onto the truck. I tried to manually crank it but it was hard. It wad easier when the wife held on the extend button. We had to do the same to retract it . This is the original equipment since camper was new (2010). I found a zerk fitting on the side of the tube to grease it that I never knew about. The motor turns and the legs go up and down (no weight on them). I'm confused as to what to do. I don't know if the legs are binding, the gears in the top are worn and slipping, if the gears in the gear box itself are bad. The camper is big and heavy with only one motor. Venture told me to install kit with two motors. I don't know what brand of landing gear I have either. Any thoughts

Where there any stickers or markings on the box or motor?

Can you rotate the gearbox by hand when it's off the unit? If so feel for rough spots that may indicate worn or missing teeth on the gears.

If I wasn't so busy this week with work and getting ready for Tadpole, I'd run down and take a look at it. Would bet the gears are starting to strip out and bind.

I'm thinking you are right. I thought about replacing the gear box and the gears at the top of the legs (lead and follow). I am trying to find out what brand of components I have. I'll probably call Forest River with my Vin number to see what was installed on the build.

I think it's LCI. I looked for markings under the top cover of the landing legs. There are numbers stamped but they are light and covered with paint. The follow leg looks like 1101-2.

Yes, mine doesn't have venture on it. Are these all the same? My motor is made by Venture MFG. It was the only thing marked. I talked with someone over the phone today at an rv parts supplier. I wad told they are different. I pointed out to her that a single motor driven setup has a 2500 lb capacity on each leg and the dual has 4000 lbs. per leg. She mentioned some gearboxes have a limit of 6000 lbs. I haven't found that number on any that I've looked at online. What is the story on your motor and gear box if you don't mind my asking?

Spares I got "just in case"
I have another motor no gear case.
I'd be willing to part with the gear case but not the motor as its brand new.
I believe without looking the motor was and lci branded unit.
