Landing Jacks binding?

2009 Cardinal 37RL. When I set up by lowering the landing jacks they are giving a very bad "binding" sound. I checked the gears (what I could see on both sides) and they seem to have plenty of grease. I'm afraid something will break. We're in FL until late April so I'm not near my regular dealer. Any ideas? Help.

2 things I would do, unfortunately have been there.

1 check to make sure the connecting shaft that runs across to the other landing gear is tight, should be a bolt on each end (there was on my Cougar)

2 the top of the landing gear shaft should have a metal cap on it, remove that and make sure you don't see any debris in the worm gears.
