Lippert 6pt auto leveling system

I am new to owning any kind of camper but I purchased new a 2017 XLR 413 Amp and I am having an issue with the middle leg slowly lowering itself whole driving as well as just sitting. Got lucky not to hit anything to rip it off or cause even more damage. Out of warranty and looking for some input please? Thank you in advance.

My first thought is that particular jacks internal seals are bad. I'm assuming you have no hydraulic fluid leaks.

Some folks have had luck finding a hydraulic shop that can replace the seals. Others just replace the entire jack.

I would call Lippert tech support and see what they say. You might get lucky and they will send you a new jack. At the least they will help you identify the exact problem.

No hydraulics in the Lippert 6 point system, it's all 12v screw jacks.

True, he didn't say if he had the electric or hydraulic leveling system. But the specs for his toy hauler are hydraulic leveling.

I am starting to see more electric versions, 4 and 6 point, but most are still hydraulic, especially on larger rigs.

Super 8, I've got the Lippert 6-point level-up system on my 2017 Columbus, and it is hydraulic. (Either that, or I've got power steering on my fiver, 'cause I've got a reservoir full of hydraulic fluid.)

like another poster said you have a leak past a seal in the jack . it can be rebuilt lippert sales the new seals and it's pretty easy job . but lippert knows they have issues with these jacks and if you call them there is a good chance they will send you a free one as long as your the org. owner

Lippert 6 point

Capt Mike - we have the exact same Compass as you and also a hydraulic tank in the front basement. Where is your steering wheel?

We've got a reservoir full of hydraulic fluid and NO leveling jacks.

Our three slideouts are hydraulic.

I have the Lippert 6 point system which is hydraulic. I know, because I had a jack stuck, and had to remove hydraulic fluid to get it retracted.

I was on a dealer's lot looking at new 5ers. I was comparing an electric jack model to a hydraulic one. Hydraulics in theory can lift more than electric. Hydraulics are also faster.
That said, while there, I looked at the new hydraulic camper, and it already had a puddle of fluid on the ground under the pad. Hydraulics are super sensitive to the precision needed to keep them sealed. They are also not intended to be kept under pressure for long periods.
Finally, I would advise you to tie up the leaking jack with chain/wire, whatever lest it drop down while you are traveling until you get it fixed. That would be a disaster.

Hydraulics have been in use for a very long time and on many different types of equipment. They are very reliable and are built to hold pressures indefinitely.

Do they occasionally leak and need repair? Sure, just like anything mechanical.

My hydraulic slides and jacks are now 7 years old. I have had one leveling jack replaced at 5 years.

The levelup jacks have been deployed for up to three months without any leak down or problems. The front hydraulic legs are constantly deployed unless we are traveling

Having had experience with both electric and hydraulic leveling and slide systems, I much prefer hydraulic.

In either case, having an auto level system of any kind is one of my top requirements when looking at new RVs..

Absolutely! Hydraulics are super powerful and if built right, are long lasting and reliable.
And, I totally agree that my leveling system is the best "option" on my coach. So much so that it isn't a negotiable for future purchases.

Our Cardinal 5er has the Lippert 6-point hydraulic leveling system which has been performing flawlessly for nearly three years. Hydraulic systems like these rely on keeping the working hydraulic fluid as clean as possible. We always wipe the extended rods of each leveling cylinder clear of any dirt or grime before retracting them to safeguard against abrasive damage to the cylinder seals.

I doubt that it is the seals in the system that are contributing to your problem. Each cylinder is controlled by a valve, probably a spool-type valve, that directs the fluid to the top of the piston to extend the ram, or to the bottom to retract. I agree with the recommendation that you contact the Lippert factory directly to see if they can help you with your problem. Blocking inadvertent extension of the particular ram in question would be a good temporary fix until you get a response from Lippert.

NMWildcat, The seal went bad and I actually have a buddy that does hydraulic work and he helped me remove it and he replaced the seals for me. Good to know people. No more issues thus far. [emoji1360]
