Cool Lippert SBS Sealed Bearing System....

Well I guess it had to happen... My 2010 Sabre 30REDS-6 5th Wheel equipped with the infamous SBS has had a bearing failure.

Lippert no longer makes or provides spares for those, only option: get new axles with - what I hope - are better and greasable bearings.

I get one axle for near free ($135) and I need to buy the second one ($950), plus shipping. Obviously plus labor.

I am disappointed for sure, but happy the failure did not happen in a remote and far away land.

Just wanted to remind the community, that this may, will, probably for sure, happen if you have said SBS..

Darn

I own a 2010 Wildcat 30Loft with the same axles. Have replaced all 4 bearings once and doing it again next week. The bearings are SKF FW115 or Timken SET49 sealed bearing units. Timkens are USA made, SKF's are Korean made. They aren't that hard to replace but getting to them is a pain and time consuming. Once the tire and hub is off inspect the axle for damage and then have the bearings pressed out and new ones pressed in the hub and then reassemble.

The main problem is that these sealed bearings are made for 3000-4000 pound cars and light trucks/suv's and when put on a 10K plus 5th wheel they will fail. Another FR decision without thinking it through.

They are not greaseable as they are sealed but they are definitely not lifetime unless it is implied by FR that a lifetime is 12-24 months.

Yet another failure in a LONG line of RV failures on systems and parts.

Thanks for providing the part numbers for the bearings. I have a feeling that a lot of people will be needing them in the near future.
