Maxxis ST tire speed rating

Thank you Airdale, you are correct, the speed rating only has to do with the DOT testing. The Tireman9 has gone over this over and over. Besides Maxxis do not come with a speed rating. If it's a ST tire the max should be 65 MPH in my opinion, but I'm not buying people tires or paying for the damage. The old saying you can lead a horse to the water but you can't make it drink the juice..

If one is driving between speed limit and 15 under speed limit in the far right lane, I'd say they can wave any number of fingers and I wouldn't care. If, however, one is driving at that speed in any lane other than the far right, "We're No. 1!" would probably be appropriate...

The Maxxis M8008 ST Radial is "Q" speed rated. However, according to the Tire and Rim Association, the U.S. tire industry specification authority, inflation pressures and load specifications in general for any ST Radial trailer tires, without a service description, regardless of the manufacturer, are designed and rated at 65 MPH. If the speed is higher than 65 MPH, the pressure and load need to be adjusted according to the following guidelines:

From 66 to 75 MPH – the tire inflation pressure needs to increase 10 PSI (not to exceed the maximum PSI the tire is rated for) but requires no load adjustment.

From 76 to 85 MPH – the tire inflation pressure needs to increase 10 PSI (not to exceed the maximum PSI the tire is rated for) and load should be reduced by 10%.

I did check your recommended site and that gives me hope. Checking the Maxxis site, I guess they don't want it spread. This gives me hope along with good reviews by folks here who have Maxxis. Speed rating of 99 is way above what I need, but, good to know.

My present factory tires are the famous Castle Rock from the same supplier that blessed me with light rims / Lions Head. Contacting them several months ago, I could get no response on the pressure rating of the rims.

I am also glad to get the info. on price on the site you provided. Now I can ask Discount Tire why they want so much for the same tire. HMMMM!

I've posted this before. Didn't have any problem getting a response from Lions Head. Their wheels on my TT do not have a pressure rating stamp but do have a maximum weight stamp. Here's what LH has to say about that:

My 235/80R16 Maxxis 8008 are rated at a maximum pressure of 80psi and at that psi they are rated for 65mph. I interpret that to mean that increasing by 10psi to 90psi in order to run at 75mph would be a NO since that is above the Maxxis max psi for that tire.
