Mount new levelers at 45 degree angle
I am replacing the weak cheap levelers that came with my Rockwood 2306. I have seen Rvs at shows that had the levelers mounted at 45 degree angles instead of all square with each other. This appears to be more stable because of the angles. Any feedback? Anyone changed this on their unit?
P.S. I haven't looked under mine yet to see how practical it is to do this and may find it's not worth it.

I can see where it might make a difference, but would be hard for you to judge since you are upgrading to heavier parts anyhow. Keep in mind, they are not levelers, they are stabilizers.

Yes, you are correct. My mistake. I have no idea why I called them that.

If they aren't mounted vertically (or close to it) the weight of the RV will put a big bending moment into the seal assemblies where the rod comes out, and into the rod itself.
Unless you're sure that the cyliders are desinged for the side loads, I wouldn't risk it.

My album link in my signature line shows more pics of my stabilizers.
Triangulation is the key to stabilization.

I just got my first 5th wheel. I was thinking of doing a setup like that. I can see where that would be very effective.

I understood what you meant. You are talking about the manual crank stabilizers. Apparently F and E thought you were talking about hydraulic levelers. I say mount them turned 45 degrees. I think it will help. Another thing that makes a HUGE difference is X-chock wheel chocks.

Sorry guys, I think my original question was made in my sleep. It had everything wrong with it! It's stabilizers not levelers, turned 45 degrees not at an angle.
I do have the wheels chocks and yes it does make a difference. The cheap stabilizers that came with the trailer have a lot of play in them. Putting a pile of Lynx blocks under them helps a lot but I think the heavy duty stabilizers I am getting will help and turning them at a 45 degree angle would help even more. I do know about the triangulation method and the huge improvement it brings. If I turn my stabilizers at 45 degree angles it would be harder to use the triangulate method if I wanted to do that later. Hmmm.

Your'e correct. I didn't realize you were talking about stabilzers on a 5th. I have a 32' MH with hydraulic levellers!
