New drums & brakes

Last week while going to the Grand Canyon every pit stop I shoot my hubs with a heat gun. 3 hubs were running at 118-122 degrees and the fourth hub was at 148. yesterday I pulled the drum expecting maybe too much preload on the bearing or a bad bearing. What I found was the spring that secures the brake shoe to the backing plate was gone and the shoe was rubbing on the drum so much that it cut a deep v and the drum needs to be replaced.Turns out AL-KO does not make this drum anymore and they have about 30 left in Indianna. The brakes are 1 3/4 wide and all they are making are 2" brakes and drums.Calling most rv places in SO-CAL all they carry are Dexter parts so I am going to change to dexter brakes and drums to the tune of 1,180 dollars. My question is has anyone done this and will I still be able to use the ezlube zirks on my spindles.I believe dexter has a lube system and will it be compatable ? My trailer is a 2013 24' FR x-lite. I think the ezlube is just part of the spindles and hopefully all drums will work.

Lippert put 4 new hubs and breaks on my unit I had AL-KO also. you can still use the lube system. The breaks that you will get will be a lot more aggressive. There is a required break in period to seat the shoes. What it is you drive 50 miles per hr then hit your slide over not panic stop about 1/2 way and let it slow to 20 miles per hr. I think it was 10 mins later you do this again for I think it was 10 times. Then just reset your controller. Let me tell you they will stop you. I was told if I didn't do that they would glaze the new pads and then they would have to be replaced. Got a few people mad at me when driving home from Goshen. I always looked back as far as I could to make sure nobody was behind me, but missed a few. Lucky it wasn't on a busy highway but Country road.

Thanks, good to know I need to break them in. I might not be able to slow to 20 on the freeway but I'll give it my best. Good to know about the lube.

I Burnt a bearing on my 5r last year and I replaced the hub, bearings, seals, and backing plate complete with brake assembly and magnet at Rock Falls Trailers sales for $175.00. I had to emery cloth the spindle but the owner gave me the grease for free. Wow, I love Rock Falls Illinois.
