new tire popped on my popup.Don't know why?Ideas?
Hi,
I just popped a camper tire and I don't know why. I would like to avoid this again, so I could use some help. Worried....
I just bought a Coachmen Clipper 806 new and when the nitro tire popped it had two huge egg shape wear spots in the center, one with a big hole and the other with a big wear spot roughly opposite to each other. It is as if the brakes locked repeatedly in the 2 same spots.
The dealer checked the bearings and brakes and everything is functioning fine. Tow computer is set at factory suggested. I am freaked out that this happened and would like to know if I did anything to contribute to this or if this was something mechanical or from before I even bought it.
Is it possible the wheel had been installed not flush or some other reason? Over inflation? Is it possible tires were dragged before camper was purchased?
I could really use some feedback to put my mind at ease.

Maybe someone tried to tow it while the camper emergency brake was engaged. Someone may have triggered the brake safety cable unknowingly. I suppose you would see identical wear on both tires in that situation.

First of all welcome to the forum! There are seemingly endless threads on tire blowouts. Just use the search box. As far as the flat spots go I would think you would notice if the brakes locked up or maybe they were damaged before you even took it home. Poor quality and underrated tires are commonly installed on new campers. You could read for days on this subject which tells you how common tire failures are. Either see if you can get warranty replacements or spend you own money and buy better tires.

Thanks. No, the wear is only on one side. It is only me who has driven it except before I bought it new.

I was just worried I did something but couldn't figure out what I might have done or if mechanically this would happen again as a design flaw.

The wear pattern shows the tire had two blisters, probably from the get go. That is a sign of delamination. You need new tires.

I am confused by your statement brake controller is set to factory specs. The setting is going to be different for every trailer and you will need adjust it as the brakes ware. Have you try to operate you trailer brakes manually? They should not lock up until you are close to full on.

Check your weight... lots of blow outs due to being to heavy. Check the tire manufacture specs. Also, curb hopping can cut the inside of the tire where you cant see it. Check your tire each trip both inside (underside of trailer) and outside.

I might think that the "factory setting" is too high and the one tire stops rolling and drags the pavement before the other one... creating the two wear spots. Suggest setting the brake at a lower setting and checking the wear on both tires often.
Might go up a ply rating, maybe from 6 ply to 8 ply on new tires.

Thanks, I mean I didn't change the setting from the shop. It seemed to be working properly, but maybe it was too high.

Check to see where the tires are manufactured. Most likely China. The tires from China should not be allowed for use in this country. They are not safe. Note the blowouts along the road. The daughter rented a U-HAUL trailer which had Goodyear tires made in Canada. They obviously know the difference in quality.
