New TPMS sensors from TST

TST is now offering a flow thru design sensor. No need to remove to add air. But..they don't look like they use the wrench to lock on..easier to walk away?
They also have a new internal mount 2" or 3" metal valve stem sensor with a 7 year battery life. If purchased now with the 507 system the internal is only $70. more for 4.
Any suggestions on which way to go?

I would go with the internal ones. Wish they had that 3 weeks ago when I bought ours. Geeze.

I just ordered a 507 system this morning from Elizabeth, the person on the other end of the TST phone line. She was most helpful, and was able to answer most of my questions (she just didn't know the operating frequency).

I want to be able to replace the batteries myself, and I'll likely move the sensors to my truck's tires (a 2000 F-350 crew-cab) when not towing the trailer. I may also add four more sensors at some later date and monitor everything.

These will go nicely with the four new Maxxis 175 x 13s my tire guy got in for me today. Steel stems, too, so I'm hoping to increase my odds at having no tire failures.

I figure that the first blowout damage prevented may easily pay for the cost of the tires and TPMS. Cheap insurance if you ask me!

I just used my 507 system on a 950 mile trip. Worked as promised. I had no worries about my trailer tires. Totally worth the money!

Long post, but it may save someone from experiencing the same grief I just went through this evening.

The 507 finally arrived this afternoon, which allowed me to take the sensors to my tire guy, who could now balance my new Maxxis tires.

Brought them all home and decided to activate the system. The YouTube videos were almost more helpful than the written instructions, and I had all the sensors "paired" with the display with no problems at all.

However, after ensuring that all the tires were at the same pressure, and setting the upper and lower limits, I couldn't get two of them to display anything at all. The other two worked "as advertised".

After noting that the two that worked had released "just a bit" of air prior to the gaskets sealing, and the other two non-operational ones did not, I determined that those two were not depressing the Schrader valve.

Hmmmm. I loosened the valve out to the point that there was air leaking past it a bit, and screwed the sensor back on. That resulted in the air just continuing to leak when the sensor was tight! What 'da heck????

I finally determined that any of the sensors would work on the two stems that worked initially, and none of the sensors would work on the two stems that were dead initially. Now I was getting somewhere!

Since I am a tool junkie, I have the tool to chase the threads on a valve stem. One of the functions is a thread "die" for the outside of the stem. If anyone's interested in trivia, it's a 0.307 x 32 thread. (How's that for an obscure size?)

I have determined tonight that my tire guy uses cheap (where do you THINK they were made?) metal valve stems. The O.D. threads were not threaded far enough, and the TST precision sensors wouldn't screw far enough on to depress the Schrader valve. After using the die to correct the errant Oriental threading job, the entire system is now playing a "right-nice tune".

I'm going to let it play overnight to see if there are any slow leaks.

Tomorrow, I'm taking my two spare tires to him to break apart, install metal stems, and balance.

I'm also taking that die with me, and before they go into my spares, those new stems are getting properly sized. I don't wish to re-discover this problem on the road somewhere!

Hopefully this helps someone, somewhere......

I believe it was the Snap-On guy, but it's been years (more like decades) since I bought it.

They're actually not all that uncommon. Here's one that's similar:

On our trip today with our new TST 507 sensors, the alarm went off on 2 sensors due to the high pressure. I had set the pressure limit to 69 psi. Scared the daylights out of me and DW. Don't really know what it should be set at but will try 75 psi and see what happens. Temp went from 60° to 98°.

My TST 507 TPMS high pressure is set at 60 psi for 50 psi cold inflation and so far so good. Highest pressure tires got to was 59 psi and it was about 85 degrees F ambient temperature. On hotter days I might have to increase to 65 psi for the alarm......

I thought recommended settings were 20% above and 10% below actual psi? My new 507 with flow thru sensors should be here next week. Can't wait for a new toy!

After setting mine for 50 psi, I could set the low at 45, but the high did not have 60 available.

Just 59 and 61. I set it at 61.

First road test this Thursday afternoon. About a 100-mile trek in the Mojave Desert.

I have 507 set and the only complaint i have, while driving, it will occasionally lose the signal from one or two of the sensors. It's a real pain in the butt.

Is it possible the battery is bad in that sensor? Have you contacted TST and informed them of the problem? They have been super resposive to me. I can pm an email address if you want.

Dunnnc, I also found them very helpful, I never called about this problem. I thought it might be battery related, but then I read that when the battery is weak, it will flash a crossed out battery pic on the monitor when that sensor comes up. Also, it wasn't just one, at times it was two or three....

I think they have a signal repeater antenna. Is that an option or does it come with the kit?
