Nitrogen in truck tires

My truck came from the dealer with Nitrogen filled tires, I want to change to air,
Is there a procedure to do this, or just add air when needed?

Mine came from the dealer with nitro too.

The air we breathe is around 78 percent Nitrogen, 21 percent Oxygen...

Mostly a waste/gimmick IMO

Yes, just add air. I'm on my second truck, and now travel trailer, with thd nitro. I've found no advantages and lots of trouble in trying to find someone to top off with nitro, which is needed every fall.

Haven't had to add air or nitrogen to my nitrogen filled camper tires. 110 psi for three years. Use my compressor for truck only which changes pressure a lot. Haven't found a nitrogen setup yet, but I know they are out there somewhere.

All Nitrogen is, is very dry air. moisture has all but been removed from the air we breathe.Some say it helps the life of their tires some say baloney.The tire dealers love us to purchase it (as much as $10.00 to fill a tire). Then when you leave their shop and ask about needing air later they say just fill with air pump. I told one if they want to fill my new tires with nitrogen go ahead but I won't pay extra for it. (Funny their tire hose was only connected to nitrogen anyhow.) My advise don't pay extra for it.

You can buy a bottle of nitrogen from about any welding supply as well as a two gauge regulator. I have one for another purpose. I'm sure we are all crafty enough get a nose from Harbor Freight hooked up for tire use. Nitrogen is better but I am not sure if it would be worth the cost and the trouble.

Dry Nitrogen is good for three things; Aircraft tires (wont support fire) blowing out aircraft pitot/static lines (no moisture) and of course, Keurig K-Cups (keeps moisture at bay) to prolong shelf life). A multitude of other uses but my RV tires are not one of them.

Don't waste your money on buying the nitrogen for your tires.
I made liquid Oxygen and Nitrogen in the Navy and the aircraft use it for tires, shocks, and canopy opening systems. We were told that the N2 in the tires was to prevent blowouts on landing. You take a tire from 0 speed to 150+ knots and expose it whatever the down force impact is and see what happens. I can see that. But my vehicles? Nah

BTW, one of my guys caught an aviation type blowing padeyes out with the nitrogen from a service cart instead of compressed air. He didn't want to drag the long hose out. He was taken to his boss and was "sentenced" to stand a watch in the O2N2 plant (on his off time) so he could see just how the stuff is made and how precious it is. He learned and the word got around right quick to not do that...

This has been discussed at length in a prior thread.

There is plenty of evidence to support the benefit of using dry nitrogen in your tires. It is no more a gimmick than synthetic oil vs. "dinosaur" oil. However, not everyone is willing to pay the extra cost for either and that's fine too.

I use dry nitrogen in all my vehicles (besides the MH). It is provided at Costco where I buy my tires and I have a tank at home for the airplane and vehicles.

That being said, I have not yet converted my MH to N2, but will do so when I swap out the rubber valve stems for metal. I agree that N2 is difficult to obtain when on the road traveling, but tires inflated with N2 are also less prone to pressure loss. On the rare occasion where I've had to use air while traveling, I'll just purge the tire when I get home. Costco will do that too for free if you bought the tires there.

I choose to spend the extra money on synthetic oil for all my engines and nitrogen in my tires. It's worth it to me, but I don't tell folks that use air or Dino oil that they're wrong.

Why Nitrogen? How about helium to lighten things up and imagine the big bang when the china bombs bomb.

We used nitrogen in our aircraft tires only because it was easier to wheel out the tank to top off a tire than the air compressor. Nitrogen was also used in as precharges in our hydraulic accumulators because it was dry-no water vapor.

I don't use nitrogen in my tires just good old fashioned 'murican air.

Check this out. I have Nitrogen in all vehicles. Never had to add to it. Much more stable than H2O.

Nitrogen would be more stable then filling your tires with water.....probably a better ride also!

Had nitrogen in one car and the camper saw no difference from air. Leaked the same wore the same, got same fuel mileage. Just extra cost. No evidence to show any benefit just hype.

Just add air when it is needed.

If I could get N2 fro free it might be worth it.
