No Nitrogen...

Went by my local tire dealer today to top up the Nitrogen on my trailer. The machine broke last fall, the cost to replace was too great. I asked of they had noticed any issues using plain old air. They said no.

I topped up the trailer tires at home using my compressor. The end of Nitrogen Madness!! I am not paying for it!!

Welcome to the "No Nitrogen" club of which the majority of RV owners belong.

We use air. As soon as I found out the cost to fill with the nitrogen- I was firmly in the "no" club.

I think I'm going to add a better drier to my air compressor and not worry about replacing the nitrogen in the current tires.

I wouldn't worry to much about topping up with air. Atmosphere is 78% nitrogen. Assuming you need to replace 10% of your 100% nitrogen fill tire. The final result will still be around 97% nitrogen fill.

I added 10 lbs to some tires today and one took 7 lbs. Doesn't really mater as long as they are at the right pressure.

Bbbbut I thought a fellow named B and B said nitrogen filled tires didn't loose very much pressure.

Nope they didn't till this year. The Mice are letting air out and someone took my valve caps so possibly this is the reason why.

OC, his tires filled with nitrogen were fine in "our" country. When he crossed over to "his" country was where the problem occurred!

The machine cost too much to replace? Ripping folks off, selling something we all have freely available already, should have paid for that thing many times over.

Hey Brian, we all still like you without nitrogen. Come here as often as you are able.
Cheers to you and Betty

Nitrogen is subject to the same laws as other gasses and will expand and contract with temperature swings pretty much the same as good old air.

That is what my Tire Dealer said. A name brand required them to use nitrogen and they never did charge for it at the tire dealer. My ford dealer gives N for free too. I won't pay for it.

Will we see you at Goshen or Mayberry? Going to both this year!

Osmosis will occur with Nitrogen as well as air, just not as quickly. It's probably not even a noticeable difference to anybody.

Nitrogen in the tires seems to have been a passing fad in my area. For a couple of years every tire store in my area sold nitrogen. Today you can’t find a tire store in my area that still carries it.

Ever since I put new air-filled tires on the trailer last May I have to add a couple of pounds of pressure to the tires when it sits for two weeks or more. The first three years I owned the Silverback every time I checked the nitrogen filled tires before a trip they were at the correct pressure. Near the end of our 3rd season I finally had to start adding air every so often.

We’re going into our 13th season owning a fifth wheel and I have always run with whatever tires came with the trailer and we’ve never had a problem. This kind of flies in the face of those who are always so quick to tell you to get rid of those “China bombs” that came with the trailer.

My strategy has always been to replace the tires after 4 seasons or 25,000 miles, which ever came first.

I think it's a scam, I put air in my nitrogen truck tires and air in my nitrogen trailer tires.

If temperature doesn't affect nitrogen why do I have to touch them?
